K-50 Flash Compatibility?

Hi!

I seem to have found a good price on a Metz 48 AF-1 (hopefully about $100-$120). My main reason that I am in search of a new flash is because I want one that has the AF Assist lasers that come out of the flash for dark shots. I have three questions:

1) Is this a good flash for around$120?
2) Does this flash have the AF Assist lasers?
3) If it does, would it be compatible with the K-50?

Thanks in advance!

My Metz 58 does have AF assist, but it is fairly hit and miss whether it comes on or not...sometimes it does, sometimes the camera one does, sometimes neither...and I can't make rhyme nor reason of why.

Hmm interesting... Not exactly what I was hoping to hear. In your opinion, would it still be worth $100 if I am looking for that functionality? Or should I look somewhere else?

Thanks!

It's potentially a settings issue, or a firmware update needed, or something worse, but I've never really found it to be a major problem for me so I never looked into it - I rarely use flash anyway. I remember sometime someone else here having the same issue but don't know the outcome. A search might find it.

Otherwise it is an excellent flash...great build quality, good specs and good service (they have updateable firmware unlike Pentax, excellent service centres (so I hear) and cost roughly half what an equivalent Pentax unit would). If you would be able to return it, then I would definitely recommend trying it to see if it works for you. If not, it's up to you whether to take the risk or do some more digging first.

Thanks a lot! That response was very helpful. I'm now looking at the used Metz 48 and new Yongnuo 585EX, I'll do a bit more digging

By the way, if you're also looking for HSS capability, the Yongnuo doesn't support it. The Metz does.

Many thanks! That means it works above 1/180, correct?
