The old FAQ on the Maha site used to recommend a 0.5C. C being the capacity of the battery. So if the battery is rated for 2000mAh 1.0C = 2000mAh and 0.5C = 1000mAh. Going above 1.0C or below 0.33C is not recommended. Too gives excessive heat, too low and the charger may not detect the voltage spike that signals the cell is fully charged. Round the settings up to the nearest 100.
There are several schools of thoughts on whether a slow charge is better for the life of the battery or not. Some say the ideal is 0.33C. Some say it doesn't really matter. Maha assumes you'll be using 2000mAh cells and defaults to a compromise of 1000mAh. Use 1.0C for quick charge.
