AF360FGZ II --or-- AF540FGZ II for K-1

When I'm outside shooting, I don't like when I have to settle for sky that isn't blue. I take my studio strobes on the go but I'm limited by sync speed so maybe neutral density filters could be added as the conditions change.

What I really want to know is if anyone uses the high speed sync on these flash units. Can you get your shutter speed high so the sky is blue and the subject is well lit?

And recommendation on either one if you have a preference. The recycle time is listed to be faster on the 360, probably since it is less powerful. Any feedback is greatly appreciated as I get back into the Pentax world.

And possibly anyone using the high-speed flash on other units such as Metz mecablitz 44 AF-2. TIA

I have both the 360 and 540 units and often use them for HSS. Definitely go for the 540. You canít have too much power for HSS applications. I use both flashes mounted to my two K-1ii bodies at times. Great for shooting skateboarders against the sky for example. The 540 is much more versatile. If you have fast glass and want to combine wide open aperture for shallow DOF and properly expose your blue sky background these units are great. HSS has a limited flash range for even the most powerful flash so go for the big gun.

Thanks for the input. I'll get the 540 ordered and see how I do. Time to get a model to shoot.

540fgzii (Mine was defective) did not fire at times and I thought there is something going on with the camera hot shoe. I then bought 360 as a back up and which is when I realized it was not the camera it was the 540. So make sure you hash it out when you get it.
I was out of the warranty by then so I am living with the darn thing.

I have one of these Yongnuo YN585EX Speedlite for Pentax Cameras YN585EX/PENTAX B&H (YN 585EX). A very solid contender for the 540 if you dont need Weather sealing and LED light.
Besides the FGZiis don't have the bounce card and I sorely miss it (use my visiting card as a quick work around but still I would have liked it built in)

The old saying in regards to flash guns is simple "you can turn one down in power, but you can not turn it up above its max power", the law of chance says one day you will need that extra power.

I don't see anything about the Yongnuo and High Speed flash, otherwise it looks like a respectable unit and serve as a second flash
