Tethering a K5iis?

Looks like PKTether is now defunct, so is there any good option out there? Looked into a WiFi card, but it looked like there were issues with refreshing the file folder on the destination computer in order for LightRoom to see the files.

I'm not really in a position to upgrade my body right now, and I don't do photography for a living anyway. I use it to take photos of my products and family photos.

Have you downloaded the PENTAX Tethered Capture Plug-in for Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom® (Simple Version)? K-5 IIS is not explicitly supported, but it might work.

Software Downloads : Support & Service | RICOH IMAGING

Other than that, the WiFi card option may be the only way to go.

Presuming you have already tried the Pentax FluCard ... once you find a WiFi card that works :

pair it with WiFiCommander for Pentax:

The EyeFi Mobi Pro 16GB, if you can find one, seems to work fine on K-5 IIs:

Flucard only works with 645Z, K-3 and K-S1, Rawr.

That's software I use myself - only works with a body that has built in WiFi, though.

So...WiFiCommander and a Wifi card and I'm good to go?

Finding a Mobi is going to be like finding a Unicorn...will other cards work?

No, 5shot, see post above, that combination will not work.

Yeah, I have the same problem. I was thinking of getting my K5IIs modded for astrophotography but I also want to be able to view and download the images. To my horror I discovered that it has no usb capability. I have a Mobi Pro somewhere but I haven't used it in several years so I'm not sure I can find it. I'm not sure that's an entirely satisfactory method anyway but If i can find it I'll give it a try. Other than that I will probably just get a dedicated Astro cam.

A K5iis does have a (mini) USB port.

Found it, the PC/AV port allows access the the images via a special cable which I believe I have. I wasn't sure if that could be used to control the camera but I assume that it can. I will give it a try.

The K-5 II does not support tethering...There was a Linux app, but it hasn't been updated in ages.

PKtether works OK but I can't seem to get a live preview for focusing, composition, etc. It only shows the last image captured. That seriously limits its utility to little more than a fancy intervalometer and cable shutter release.

I can't remember if I managed to get a live preview using it. I seem to recall I could, in LV. But, I really can't remember!
