AF201FG works with V6ii's?

So I didn't think this would work, I just quickly now for 2mins played around with the following combo and it seemed to work

K-1+FA77 (AF and MF used in Av mode) + V6ii (tx)
AF201FG + V6ii (rx)

All of my shots seemed to work.

1) 1/4 power on the 201 seemed to be just that
2) Full power seemed to be significantly stronger
3) Using Auto and adjusting the TTL value on the V6ii elicited a different power level which seemingly corresponded correct (+5 was very much stronger to +0).

I did not try using the V6ii in Manual mode, I just used it in TTL.

All the shots were indoors (no HSS testing). I used the AF360FGZII profile with my V6ii in Rx mode is typically set up for.

I was under the impression this combination wouldn't work. That older V6 units were necessary and not the new V6ii's?

If I didn't fluke it and it kinda works this is quite cool. Makes for a very light and comfortable one handed off camera flash set up

Well if the AF 201FG is a P-TTL flash why should it not work ?

I have no experience of that flash. Is is P-TTL or older TTL model?

I believe it was this thread here that prompted me to not even try it before now

If you look at the post you can see I mention I have a 201 coming in the mail, but then mcgregni states the V6ii is not compatible with the 201... so I just never tried...

I also managed to get it to fire and change power in Manual mode on the V6ii. I'm a bit confused, it appears to work ok, even under the wrong profile (i.e. under the AF360FGZII for the V6ii in Rx mode).
