K10D and AF080 ringflash

want a cheap flash for macro

just cant seem to find if these two wil work together, read some older threads from 2006 that say *ist is ok and k10 not but not why

more than happy to work with full or 1/4 manual power and playing with aperture/iso settings to get it to work

thoughts ?

experience ?

The AF080C has three settings: TTL Auto flash, manual full power, and manual 1/4 power.

The *istD supports TTL flash mode, the K10D does not. With the K10D you're limited to using the manual settings and will have to experiment with the f/stop and power setting to get the exposure right.

Which is why I hang on to my *istD!

Here is a diagram from the manual which shows the f/stops to use in manual mode, full power. It is pentax Copyright - Let's hope they don't mind that I show it here.

Cost being the main factor. Us 400 to 600 for ring flash or even more is exorbitant to me. Hopefully there is one 3 rd party ring flash at us 100 thereabout.

Manual is fine with different output cos most of my macro is in manual mode.

I wonder why old "auto" flashes such as elicar auto macro is not ok for K10D/K20D. I have just bought one and use it in "auto" mode. The sensor is on the ring flash and power is adjusted directly, not "TTL". It's cost was 100 USD including international shipping.
