Hello. Does anyone have a list of compatible camera bodies this af.500 ftz will work on? (Full features). I know it will work manually on many.. thanks. Dw

It should work fully (including TTL flash metering) on any of the autofocus film bodies.

It should also work on the *ist D and DS digital bodies. Any later DSLR bodies are not compatible with the AF500 ftz TTL protocol.

According to the AF500FTZ manual, the full flash features will work on any Pentax 35mm autofocus film camera, except the Z/PZ-10 & SF series cameras. The lens on the camera also must be a F Series or newer AF lens.

Actually the manual I’ve got does not say that, it works with all the features the camera body supports. Even the a/pz10

The flash was in production for a few years, so there were a couple versions of the manual. I've got one from 1991 and 1992 (German). The earlier one has a section on using the flash with 6x7 & 645 cameras and the later one is missing that info.

The Z/PZ-10 does not have Av & TV modes, so that's why it's included in the list of cameras not taking advantage of all the flash's features in the Pentax manual.

I have: PROGRAM-PLUS / MZ-7 / MZ-S / K-1 / Straight 645

This 540 I have does not function other than in manual - No TTL or auto zoom.

On another note, I have 2 AF-360 flash. Both work fully on the MZ-7, MZ-S & the K-1, but one of the 360 units says "P-TTL" and the other just says "TTL"

Pentax has always had an intuitive design, but they cant seem to get their act together with their flash units.

The AF500FTZ will work best on your MZ-S and you will be able to use all of its TTL features.

500 ftz

Love my FTZ 500, but after setting idle for a while, it will no longer light up. Is there any way to re-energize the unit?
