360 Flash Question

Can anybody come up with any half way logical reason that the flash would be designed such that it will only manually zoom in "auto" but is able auto-zoom in "manual"?

Uh . . . that's not what mine does . . . defective maybe?

From Page 18 of the manual:

"When flash mode is set to Auto Flash, the Auto Zoom function does not
operate even if the camera and lens are both autofocus. Set the zoom manually to match the lens angle of view".
