I've been reading up on Strobist and I bought one of the starving student lighting kits. Now I have to figure out how to connect the camera to the flash. I'm not ready to shell out the money for a wireless transmitter yet, so what cord do i need to connect the K10 to the 540?

There are a couple ways to skin this cat...

Option P (for Pentax): You'll need to get a Hot Shoe Adapter F and a Extension Cord F5P (Short, 3 feet) which will let you tether the flash and retain all the P-TTL capability.

Option C (for Cheaper): You'll want something like a FlashZebra.com: Female Hotshoe to Male PC Connector (with Cord) (Item #0069) (unfortunately currently out of stock), or a combination of off-camera hot shoe adapter and PC sync cable to go from the camera's PC socket to adapter's PC socket.

This is what I use:

P-TTL Off Camera Shoe Flash Cord for Pentax K10D K200D - eBay (item 350168426260 end time Mar-20-09 23:22:04 PDT)

The quality is OK. It won't last 10 years. But I know for sure it will last 2 years, that's how long I've been using it.

Cords

Option P could also be: Hot Shoe Adapter FG and an Extension Cord F 5P (long 3meters).

For Option C: I have a "Promaster Off-Camera TTL Cord PX" that if I remember right I got from B&H about 4 years ago for $39.95? It is built like a tank!
