Anybody familiar with the braun f1000 studio flash ?

I have such a unit (made around 1970 ?) , this is the generator braun fg1000 :

Most controls are obvious, but the white blob to the right (light sensor?) is a mystery.
Same for a switch on the bottom (not visible in the picture), probably something to do with the halogen light intensity.

The unit came with 2 flash heads, and some 650W halogen lamps, which don't fit properly, so I did not try them.

Can somebody shed some light ?

George

Unfortunately (as I'm sure you found) a search for "braun fg1000 flash" brings up mainly electric razors. LOL

I used something similar back in college (don't ask) and as I recall, that white bulb is a slave trigger. Of course it was so long ago that my memory is highly suspect, but I think thats what it is. An obvious test would be to turn on the unit and then set off a separate flash and see if the flash heads are triggered.

Yeah, the electric razer makes searching a bit problematic.

You are right about the slave functionality, I tested it, and it works. I now also understand the function of the switch in the trigger contact. This switch disables the slave cell, the slave flash stops responding when I insert the sync cable.
Not that this slave cell is of much use with current preflash emitting bodies, thats why I made my own slave cell.

Thanks for solving this mystery.

Now I only have to find out what that big switch in the bottom does.

That I can't help with... Ours may have been a slightly different model because I don't remember a switch on the bottom.

Good luck.

It could be a different model, or more likely, you never flipped the heavy unit over, so you did not noticed it, it is very well hidden :

Or possibly a reset switch.

Unlikely, this unit predates Microsoft.

It has something to do with the halogen light, because the flash part does not change behavior when I flip the switch.

Welcome to Pentax Forums Paul,
I imagine that everyone forgot all about this thread, however it was nice of you to tell us what the switch is for.
I for one would have never guessed that.

BRAUN STUDIOFLASH

Hi there,
I am new to this forum.

Nice to see that the Braun Fg 1000 Studioflash is been used.

I have 2 of these generators with some 6 heads and a very special Spot from Braun.
They were made not at Braun Frankfurt but at Waldkirch in the Black Forest near where I live.

All heads work but one generator is dead.

Hello

I also have this old braun flash with 4 heads the flashlights still work , only the pilot lights are gone and have to be replaced. Does someone know which todays replacement bulbs I could use I think they are halogen?
Does anyone have an electric circuitry plan from the generator?

thanks

Braun f1000 studioflash

PILOTLIGHT is a 650W Standard Halogen PHILLIPS 650 W PF810 or equivalent
from Osram- Its perhaps better to put a 350 W halogen in.These are all available
in electrical shops.

Sorry . no plans- but if you find one-please let me know

If anyone is interested I would think about selling the complete set I have of - 2 Generators,6 Heads,1 big Spothead- all in IMMACULATE condition
