Can we set the internal flash of K-7 not to flash while connecting wireless with 360?

I can setup the K-7 internal flash to act as a trigger to the 360. But is it possible to set in such a way that the internal flash to not flash? I just want the remote 360 to flash but not the internal one. Is this possible at all?

If you don't want the internal flash to show up in the photo when triggering the 360 wirelessly, you can set the internal flash to fire as a control flash only in the custom menu (p177 of the user manual).

If that's not what you're after, then I don't think so, because the camera uses the internal flash to communicate with the off-camera flash when taking the photo.

Nope, but you can use something like this flash-diffuser and cover it with an opaque material so it won't send the light directly to the subject - just make shure the flash can see it.

This could also work - even without covering it whti an opaque material/color

If you are going to use the AF360FGZ wirelessly, you only have two choices if you want to trigger it with just the K-7.
Number 31 in the custom menu- Flash in Wireless Mode

1.) On- fires a the built in flash as a master.
2.) Off- The built-in flash fires a very low output control flash. Unless your ambient light is very dim/dark or very close to the camera, the output from this control flash doesn't affect your shot.
You can take a folded piced of paper or index card and divert the light from the control flash toward the slave flash instead of your subject, or you can get some radio triggers, or you can use some off camer flash cords.

If it's really necessary for the onboard flash not to fire, you could get some wireless triggers.

When I'm shooting in the dark and I don't want my K10D's internal flash to show on the subject, I just put my hand in front of the flash. I've had an approximate 2% failed trigger with my 540 and 360 with my hand in front of the flash.

The shot below was done this way:

That's a really nice shot! I must learn how to do this!

Which wireless trigger is cheap and cheerful?

Save your money if you only want to use the 360FGZ. The 360FGZ has an auto power off feature that can't be disabled. The flash will turn off in 3 minutes when set to any mode but wireless. Setting the 360FGZ to wireless does means the flash will only power off in about an hour, but the wireless setting disables the flash's foot. Using the 360FGZ with wireless triggers just isn't worth the trouble in my opinion.

Thank you
Russell

Does it help if I also have a Metz 48 flash? What wireless trigger is recommended then?

The Metz 48 AF-1, the Metz 54 AF-1, and the Pentax 540FGZ are the only P-TTL flashes I know of that have the ability to disable auto power off feature. If you are looking for a flash to do P-TTL and allow use with a remote trigger then one of these will work. If you already have another P-TTL flash, then buying an older used flash or a new manual flash to use with radio triggers is also a perfectly valid option.

There are a number of wireless flash trigger systems. Recommending one is pretty tricky as it depends on the features, range, reliability, and price you want to pay. It probably would be a good idea spend some time at the Strobist site reading all that is there on the different trigger systems to help understand the difference between them.

Thank you
Russell
