Hy I have tried on my k10d an old multidedicated thyristor flash. But it does not fire, it's trigger voltage is only 8V so it is safe. The flash fires on an old Praktica SLR but not on my k10d. Am i doing something wrong? What settings do i have to use on my camrea? The manual only talks about 360 and 540 flashes.
Do i have to use x-Sync mode?

Yes you should have the camera on "X" or slower shutter speed.
Try cleaning the contacts on both the flash and the camera. See if the flashes contact is actually in contact with the center contact area of the camera's hotshoe.

roscot, thx for the answer. I feel quite dumb right now because i never tested the flash into x-sync mode nor in manual mode with sutter speeds ranging form 1/90 to 1/250. Thinking about it right now it seems logical not to fire a nondedicated flash in other modes than x-sync or manual. It must be the heat we are facing here in Bucharest for the past month 36 to 42 Celsius (97 to 108 Fahrenheit).
