Weekly 114 - Photo of the week 16-30 May 2010
Posted By: casil403, 05-17-2010, 04:21 AM

Welcome to 114th edition of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week! This edition covers photos taken between 16-30 May 2010.

Thanks to Peter Zack for hosting last week, and giving me a chance to host this time. This is my first hosting so I am looking forward to it!

POTW is a great way to see what Pentax owners are doing with their cameras as they post whatever pictures they took during the active week. Check in here to see a nice variety of great photos.

So grab your camera, get out there and shoot! Then come on back here and share your shots with your fellow Pentaxians!

Again same rules as before:

1) No theme, just post your favourite pix.

2) Let's keep it to under 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Date: Sunday May 16 2010 to Sunday May 30 2010. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes. Old shots with a new look from post processing during the open time period are also welcome.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via PM. If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between 12:00EST and 5PM EST on the Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

So get out there, start shooting, have fun, enjoy and let's see what ya got!

Previous hosts: Each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look past at the previous 112 weeks. 1 Peter Zack, 2Eaglerapids 3 rmtagg, 4 Peter Zack, 5 daacon, 6 Bramela, 7 mtnbearhug, 8 dantuyhoa, 9 gawan,10 roentarre, 11 daacon, 12 Kris, 13 mtnbearhug, 14 SCGushue, 15 daacon, 16 maxwell1295, 17 dantuyhoa, 18 daacon, 19 maxwell1295 19(2) daacon, 20 Bramela, 21 Syb, 22 maxwell1295, 23 maxwell1295, 24 dantuyhoa, 25 Gawan, 26 Peter Zack, 27 borno, 28 daacon, 29 gawan, 30 Damn Brit, 31 maxwell1295 32 maxwell1295 , 33 dantuyhoa, 34 daacon, 35 Peter Zack, 36 Damn Brit, 37 Borno, 38 Kevint, 39 Peter Zack, 40 Timbo13, 41 daacon, 42 daacon, 43 gawan, 44 dantuyhoa, 45 daacon, 46 Rense, 47 daacon, 48 Rense, 49 borno, 50 Rense, 51 daacon, 52 Peter Zack, 53 Peter Zack, 54 dadipentax, 55 David Whiteley, 56 planedriver, 57 daacon,58 Bramela, 59 daacon, 60 gawan, 61 virgilr, 62 daacon, 63 RickL, 64 Peter Zack, 65 Peter Zack, 66 Causey 67 daacon, 68 Bramela, 69 georgeweb, 70 daacon, 71 seacapt, 72 daacon, 73 AOski, 74 Rense 75 eccs19, 76 daacon, 77 xs400, 78 daacon, 79 Bramela, 80 borno, 81 legacyb4, 82 daacon, 83 gawan, 84 Rense, 85 Peter Zack, 86 davef, 87 davef, 88 xjjohnno 89 Bramela , 90 Peter Zack, 91 daacon, 92 stevebrot ,93 reeftool, 94 jezza323, 95 oldschool, 96 Iris, 97 Rense, 98 planedriver, 99 xs400, 100 Peter Zack, 101 Netuser 102 Photolady, 103 Tamia,

More shots form my foray into the prairies yesterday...a bit of a story on my morning:
My friend Terry and I decided to road trip out to the prairies yesterday with no plan...just s top through Drumheller and then make our way back via the side roads to Calgary. It was nice to get away from the piles of homework I have sitting on my desk. I have 8 assignments due this week and a midterm to write sometime before tomorrow Anyhow I had fun but the wind was ice cold and brutal...I could hardly stand up straight let alone hold the camera...so we cut it a bit short. Most of the time it was "see a shot, run out of the car, get a few shots at different angles, run back to the car ASAP to warm up and prevent frostbite!" We will go back in a couple weeks to try again and take another route.
Anyhow I digress...

I spent a few hours enjoying the return of green to a couple of our local parks. This shot is looking down at the south end of Sandy Beach Park which is neither sandy nor a beach in the way most people think of beaches. The air was filled with cliff swallows and as there are some ideal nesting sites for them here.

I also stopped by another favourite spot of mine, Confederation Park and found this quiet spot.

More great prairie shots from you Lisa. Can you not buy handwarmers where you live? Course it doesn't help battery life in the camera in that cold of weather, eh.

Joe, nice shots from you too. I like the river shot best. You mentioned Swallows, so why aren't there any in the photo, eh?

Here are a few from me again, but from last week around the house, except the last one, that was taken yesterday at my sister's house. I'm still debating if this is a good shot or not, but thought I'd post it and let you all decide.

Male Cardinal. This one is a better shot of my cardinal shooting, imo of course.

Wow you guys are kicking butt so far! Love it!

Jeff.....The colour of that rose is amazing.. just a super intense red which just explodes off the green background...very nicely done!
Thank you, Lisa.

Jeff, that's a lovely flower shot. How did you keep the red from bleeding out?
Spot meter the flower and some careful processing to bring out the detail.

There is one in that shot if you know where to look! I spent some time in that spot hoping I might catch one stopping by the nesting sites but they just don't stay still long when there is food in the air.

Your male cardinal, by the way, is very nice. I remember what a thrill it was to see them at our feeders when I lived in Ontario. Out here in Alberta they are rare but ocassionally seen.

Speaking of flowers... my wife got this as a gift from her students. I took it to the garden for some light.

Reeftool....congrats on the graduation and sorry I missed commenting in the last pass. Noiseware did a great job as I would have never guessed these were moisy shots.
Joe....I know that view Sandy beach shot well...right where the dogpark is right? And I love Confed park...I have taken many shots there myself...a beautiful spot to shoot....love all the weeping birch trees.
Mar..... more awesome birds an a lovely butterfly. I am still waiting to capture my first of the season. Love the cardinal.
Andras...that is a great gulls/terns in flight image...and the sunset on the water with bonus reflections is really lovely. Really serene feeling I get looking at it.
mecrox.....my personal fave is the wicked good 2 light stars on the tailpipe of that Victory. And the dandelion shot is out of this world with all the dew on it. I had to have a few looks at it to figure out what it was all about and when I saw how minute the dew I was blown away by it.
Jeff....Beautiful pink azaleas...makes me miss my hometown a bit as I know the rhodos in Victoria BC are in bloom right now. Stunning bokeh as well.
Robin...I really dig the gerbera shot here...especially the watering can vase it is in...kind of gives it a folksy feel which I think rocks. Nice of the student to do a lovely gesture for your wife as well.

More great stuff gang...keep 'em coming as I am having a blast seeing the great shots and commenting on your work!

I had a dinner party on the weekend and bought some giant Mums for the table. Figured I's shoot them before they got too ratty looking:
Decided to play a bit with borders also.

Anything I can do to avoid the homework!

From my back yard. I took a few liberties with this one.. Desaturated the background and played with the saturation and vibrancy of the different colors until the center popped.
