Weekly 114 - Photo of the week 16-30 May 2010
Posted By: casil403, 05-17-2010, 04:21 AM

Welcome to 114th edition of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week! This edition covers photos taken between 16-30 May 2010.

Thanks to Peter Zack for hosting last week, and giving me a chance to host this time. This is my first hosting so I am looking forward to it!

POTW is a great way to see what Pentax owners are doing with their cameras as they post whatever pictures they took during the active week. Check in here to see a nice variety of great photos.

So grab your camera, get out there and shoot! Then come on back here and share your shots with your fellow Pentaxians!

Again same rules as before:

1) No theme, just post your favourite pix.

2) Let's keep it to under 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Date: Sunday May 16 2010 to Sunday May 30 2010. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes. Old shots with a new look from post processing during the open time period are also welcome.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via PM. If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between 12:00EST and 5PM EST on the Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

So get out there, start shooting, have fun, enjoy and let's see what ya got!

Previous hosts: Each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look past at the previous 112 weeks. 1 Peter Zack, 2Eaglerapids 3 rmtagg, 4 Peter Zack, 5 daacon, 6 Bramela, 7 mtnbearhug, 8 dantuyhoa, 9 gawan,10 roentarre, 11 daacon, 12 Kris, 13 mtnbearhug, 14 SCGushue, 15 daacon, 16 maxwell1295, 17 dantuyhoa, 18 daacon, 19 maxwell1295 19(2) daacon, 20 Bramela, 21 Syb, 22 maxwell1295, 23 maxwell1295, 24 dantuyhoa, 25 Gawan, 26 Peter Zack, 27 borno, 28 daacon, 29 gawan, 30 Damn Brit, 31 maxwell1295 32 maxwell1295 , 33 dantuyhoa, 34 daacon, 35 Peter Zack, 36 Damn Brit, 37 Borno, 38 Kevint, 39 Peter Zack, 40 Timbo13, 41 daacon, 42 daacon, 43 gawan, 44 dantuyhoa, 45 daacon, 46 Rense, 47 daacon, 48 Rense, 49 borno, 50 Rense, 51 daacon, 52 Peter Zack, 53 Peter Zack, 54 dadipentax, 55 David Whiteley, 56 planedriver, 57 daacon,58 Bramela, 59 daacon, 60 gawan, 61 virgilr, 62 daacon, 63 RickL, 64 Peter Zack, 65 Peter Zack, 66 Causey 67 daacon, 68 Bramela, 69 georgeweb, 70 daacon, 71 seacapt, 72 daacon, 73 AOski, 74 Rense 75 eccs19, 76 daacon, 77 xs400, 78 daacon, 79 Bramela, 80 borno, 81 legacyb4, 82 daacon, 83 gawan, 84 Rense, 85 Peter Zack, 86 davef, 87 davef, 88 xjjohnno 89 Bramela , 90 Peter Zack, 91 daacon, 92 stevebrot ,93 reeftool, 94 jezza323, 95 oldschool, 96 Iris, 97 Rense, 98 planedriver, 99 xs400, 100 Peter Zack, 101 Netuser 102 Photolady, 103 Tamia,

I haven't posted here for a while. Here's some photos from the arctic.

A Snow Bunting that was sleeping under our window.

An Ivory Gull

A Northern Fulmar

A Pacific Male Walrus

More Pacific Walrus. I over-exposed this photo.

A herd of females with a harem bull.

And a young male.

Thanks for hosting, Lisa, and great shots everyone.

Oldschool, that's a refreshing river scene. Wish I was yakking there myself. And you captured good details on the blooms.

Clou, I like those photos, especially #4 and #5.

RollsUp, I love to see your photos of the Arctic. The snow bunting is a hardy little bird. And I really like the shot of the harem with the bull walrus.

I rather like the spoonbill photo, Rense. I'd hang it on my wall.

It's been a very busy week so I haven't been posting much. But here are three from this week...

Paul nice shots you have there. I like #4 best, that sky just sets it off.

Rollsup, nice ones. Numbers 1, 4, and 7 are my favorites.

Rense, that's still a nice BIF. We have those here but I've never seen one.

Tamia, I really like your last shot a lot.

Robin pretty shot of that moon. Too bad that electric line is in the way.

Thanks, Mar. I like the sapling photo also, especially because it's growing against one of many downed trees left helter-skelter by bad logging. I like your little lizard, and the flower shots have appealing color.

Robin, I like the moon shot, too, and that the bird seems to be looking at it.

WOW (hi five!)....more awesome photography everyone!

James...great ducks love the canvasbacks in action...I have yet to see any of those in Calgary! Where'd you take these so I know where to go sometime? The widgeon is lovely and I think the other one is some kind of scaup?

Jeff...love the treatment on the rose...the BW background compliments that deep red colour and makes it stand out quite nicely.

xjjohnno..... Is that a funnels spiders web? I've heard these things have a really nasty bite! I feel sorry for that poor rose with all the orange aphids on it..great macro!

Robin Love the trolley/shopping carts (as we call them over here) image... there is a definite mood going on...a sense of abandonment for sure. Nicely done. The house with the moon and bird is really pretty in its simplicity also. Love all the angles of the house as well My eye is wandering all arounf them when I look at the photo.

Oldskool....love the leading lines of the river...leads my eye right into the image and ti wanders around looking at the hits of red of the canoes. Bang on composition. The rose blossoms are beautiful too.

Clou....I watched the video you linked...very cool. Love the repeating patterns and the lovely curves of the buildings in your images...very nicely done.

RollsUp...Holy great shots. Those walrus images are awesome! I like the one guy rolling around in the water... and the one young guy who looks like he is posing. It looks like you got pretty close...I especially like the little snow bunting also...nicely controlled whites which is hard to do....at least for me anyhow.

Rense...The spoonbill is a stunner.....excellent composition...frame it and hang that puppy on a wall I say!

Tamia...gorgeous colours in shot one and I really like the leading lines of the stairs in #2. The BW in #3 works well with the minimalism of the shot...just a beautiful BW image!

Mar....is that first one a tulip or a lily? I have never seen one of either like that before. Wicked good DOF in that shot.. Love the beautiful orange daylily as well...I am waiting for them to show their faces. The little lizard has the expression"I'm not doing anything?" ...amusing.

Thanks again for all your posts...another stack of interesting and varied shots....great stuff!

So the weather here has been extremely sucky the last few days. Rain snow cold...generally pretty crappy. Right now as I type this I look down at the little weather icon on my toolbar and it says 0C.
I actually ventured out in the pouring rain with the camera yesterday because I spotted this on the way home. Thank goodness it was only a block away. Gotta love Pentax and the weather sealing! Not a drop got in the camera! YaY Pentax!

Here is the result of my effort:

Lisa thanks for the compliments on my photos. I'm not sure about that first flower. It just grew there one day and stayed. It actually has four of those flowers on it, and if I can remember I'll shoot the hole thing today.

Love your rain on the flower. I'm a sucker when it comes to these things. When it rains here, I go out and see what I can find to shoot with rain on it.
The coaster....how'd you get a black background? Great shot for being you were bored. We do what we can when nothing else is around. Btw, does it ever stop snowing in Calgary?

Here's one I've been trying to get right since I started shooting white flowers. I resorted to spot metering this time and my flower finally looks like it supposed to look. White, not tinged with green from the leaves around it.

Actually, I like the line and the various angles it sets up.

Yeah, I had to pose that sucker. What a prima donna!

That's what I saw too. A very ordinary photo that maybe isn't so much. But then becomes ordinary again.

Thanks everyone for the comments!

Yep as in lines, that line makes part of the photo. I just didn't look close enough before...now it makes more sense for it to be there.
