Project 52-2-47 Subject: The Forest
Posted By: Rense, 05-24-2010, 08:07 AM

Because Rob - Mithrandir - is still not able to post the new P52 for NEXT WEEK, I will step in again.....

For week 47 we again concentrate on subjects, but it is less abstract than last weeks: The Forest

(Pictures for the week 47 competition are to be taken and posted between 20100530 and 20100606, so from May 30 - June 6 ).

NOTE: We have two Seasonal competitions planned for the last two weeks of year two. You may take pictures for these anytime between 20090705 and the posting dates of 20100704 or 20100711. This way you can include your favorite holiday or season whenever it occurs during the year.

Rules:
1. Anyone and everyone who is interested in eligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-2 thread for the week. Explain what
motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by nonPentax cameras are allowed. Cameras can be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot and Medium Format.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is active to be eligible for judging.
8. Any picture taken from 20090705 to listed closing date is acceptable for the two “Seasonal” competitions – Projects 52-2-51 & 52.

We have a lot of forest around here. I will have to go out and see what I can find to contribute. It sort of hard, you know. Lots of forest, but you really can't see it because of all the trees...

It's much easier to not see the trees for the forest.

Thanks Mark for the giant vote of confidence. I think that judging will be an even greater challenge...so I'll give it my best shot.
Mark has started us off with an awesome shot of "Lone Tree Hill", (can I judge now), so let's see your "Forest" and remember "to look beyond the trees".

OK, it's true you can't see the forest because of the trees. And here are the trees in the forest. These are redwood trees on the San Francisco Peninsula. Got this shot while hiking today with my wife.

I took this one a while ago so don't count it in the running.
My question is...if it is just one single tree in a sea of vastness does it count as a forest?

as you can see in some parts, finding a forest is a bit of a challenge.

This is my submission...an urban forest...I changed my answer...I never do that in exams...well...almost never... but in this case I think it was warranted.

definition: forest

Since it is'nt specific in the original thread, and Lisa has asked the question:

for·est (fôrˈĭst, fŏrˈ-)

noun
  1. A dense growth of trees, plants, and underbrush covering a large area.
  2. Something that resembles a large, dense growth of trees, as in density, quantity, or profusion: a forest of skyscrapers. (a forest of flower blooms)
  3. A defined area of land formerly set aside in England as a royal hunting ground

Since Lisa is the skyscraper queen, she may want to amend her entry!
