Weekly Challenge #26 - Cars
Posted By: smcclelland, 08-08-2007, 10:54 PM

Alright so in continuation of the weekly challenges, this weeks challenge is...

Cars

I'm always a sucker for a really nice shot of a car so lets see what all of you can shoot. Any make, any model, it can be a picture of a rim, tire tread, an emblem, an engine, a rolling shot, anything as long as it relates to Cars!

Your final entry is due next Thurdsay meaning all entries must be in before Friday the 17th whenever that is where you live.

Ill announce the winner next Thursday or Friday.

Good luck to everyone.

The rules:
1. Post ONE photo (max 800x800) as a response to THIS post.
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme. It can be colour or B&W, your choice.
3. You can offer as much or as little additional information as you wish, but I'd be interested to know the location/event/whatever being depicted.
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and chose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. The challenge runs for 7 days plus a day or so for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any camera will do but it must be a Pentax. (added by Jonas for Challenge #23: Just use any camera you want. I'm not discriminating anyone as long as the is an active member here)

Cheers,

Shawn

Might be a little compressed, I pulled it off my Flickr site since I don't have access to the files. Currently in Charlotte, NC for 2mo then off to Nashville until Sept. 10. Left the K100D home as I didn't want it lost, stolen or damaged or worse, claimed by customs. Mom's Canon A520 4.0MP is driving me nuts with super slow processing, even with my 60x Corsair card - can't wait to have my Pentax back in my hands. Even the Canon P&S images can't compare.

Here's my entry:

Photo taken on Signal Hill near Cabot Tower at the top in St. John's, Newfoundland just as the sun was rising. I didn't stage this at all; simply parked the car and ran across the road to take another pic: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1439/531409990_84983872d7.jpg

Walking back I liked how my baby, '95 200sx SE-R from Tennessee, was angled across the spaces, silhouetted looking new again, with the Geo Center in the background. Can't wait to be back home to driver her before the summer is over.

If you want great pictures of cars I'd have to recommend my friend Andrew whom I introduced into the SLR world - simply amazing work for less than 2 years with his camera; I can only hope to take such good images. The Transportation - a photoset on Flickr

What the? Never seen a 200SX like that. What generation is it? Looks like a U13 Bluebird coupe...

It's a '95-99 200SX B14, same as the B14 4DR Sentra of the same years. Same chassis, just the 200SX indicates 2DR only. The regular 200SX had the GA16DE engine w/115HP where as the 200SX SE-R had the SR20DE 140HP, better suspension, wheels, different tail lights and trunk section and overall more comfortable and sportier interior.

Since purchased I replaced the header with full Stainless Steel as the secondary cracked off from rust - figured I'd replace it with something that will last 10+ years and get more power gains but with no noise increase. Crystal Clear 9003 headlight kit, vs low quality 9004 bulbs, is at home waiting for me along with an Infinity style grill to convert it over. From the front it looks too much like a Tercel so I had to change it. Still with only 117xxx miles and came with all repair receipts and original dealer window sticker when I purchased it three years ago for only $1800.

I took this photo during a shoot of a mates car for him as he was moving to the other side of the country. This is probably my pick of them. The rest of the gallery is here: Chris Roberts' 1995 CRX.

Straight out of the camera JPEG from my *istDL. No PP (except for slight sharpen). The reflection is 100% real.

Pentax *istDL, Sigma 18-125 @ 125, F5.6, 1/20sec, ISO-200.
superb shot man! now... show me something from that Bigma! I'm still sitting on the fence about purchasing one as I've also got my eye on the 50-135 DA * (faster but not nearly as much length and still costs more brand new than a Bigma). How are you finding the Bigma anyways? In bad weather say rain or some overcast conditions does it still hold well?

Excellent shots coming from all sorts of creative ends, can't wait to see more! Makes me want to go out and snap some car pics as well.

Ah, that explains it. It's not a 200SX. The real 200SXs have S1x designations and are RWD coupes. Called Silvias in the JDM.

I had this picture in a thread in June but since it is a car and I do really like it I shall submit it to the weekly contest.

Taken, of course, with the beautiful Pentax 10-17mm fisheye lens.

Well, I don't know if it is my 'Best' car photo, but it is one that I haven't posted before. A closeup of an Ultima GTR, taken at the Edmonton Grand Prix last month, during one of the support races.

K100, Tamron 70-300, ISO 200, 1/800, f/5.6

I did see it earlier, but now it has vanished.

Just a friendly thought; if you become a 'site supporter' you can upload tons of pictures with out worrying about embedding issues.

Old car rusting by the sea

Taken the other day near the ocean in Nova Scotia on a (another!!) dull overcast day. Sigma 12-24mm. Don't know the make of the car and it was just parked and left there years ago all by itself.

That's a very very old piece of history right there, it's a 1942 Packard Limousine! Very classic car, comparable to the Bentley's and Rolls Royce's of classic cars and many still exist nowadays for wedding limousines or in europe for limousine services. Awesome find!
