P52-2-52 Seasonal: Holiday Remembrance
Posted By: mithrandir, 07-01-2010, 09:36 AM

Week 52 is a special week. Sometime during the past year, you celebrated one or more holidays be they religious or secular. Post a photographic memory of that holiday past as a visual remembrance.

(Pictures for the week 52 competition are to be taken between 20090705 and 20100711, so from July 5, 2009 - July 11, 2010, and posted by 20100711 (July 11)).

Rules:
1. Anyone and everyone who is interested in eligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-2 thread for the week. Explain what
motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by nonPentax cameras are allowed. Cameras can be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot and Medium Format.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is active to be eligible for judging.
8. Any picture taken from 20090705 to listed closing date is acceptable for the two “Seasonal” competitions – Projects 52-2-51 & 52.

Rense will introduce the next Project 52: Project 52-3.

Christmas is the holiday with the most central significance in our family. My mother lost her first child suddenly just hours before birth and as a result she came to believe that her daughter was an angel. She started collecting angels, decades before it was popular. Growing up in the 60s and 70s, my brothers and I would have to hunt to find an angel for her each year (we made quite a few too). The tradition continued and was taken up by her friends over the years as well. Today at 76 she has long had enough angels to fill a glass display and cover a tall Christmas tree with angels. Here is a close up of her tree taken last year.

We celebrate Christmas, and our kids' favorite thing to do is decorate the tree. Unfortunately, they do it so quickly it's really tough to nail down the focus!

Lights on 34th Street (Baltimore, Maryland)

Each year, the residents on 34th Street in Baltimore go all out to celebrate Christmas. Here is one of the shots I caught last Christmas season.

As you can read below, I didn't know there's a difference between holiday and vacation. Therefore another posting, taken at this year’s celebration of the end of 2nd world war. Veterans from Canada and Poland did visit the city of Wageningen at this 65th anniversary.

Jan, so far everyone has posted a picture from a celebrated religious or secular holiday, such as Christmas or Independence Day. In the U.S. we refer to being 'on holiday' as being 'on vacation.' So I think there was a slight language hiccup here.

I still really like your shot tho!

I don't know about that? I think you speak very well in the language of photographs.
