Photo of the Week #122, July 11 - July 25, 2010
Posted By: VaughnA, 07-18-2010, 01:46 PM

Welcome to 122nd edition of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week! This edition covers photos taken between July 18 and July 25, 2010.

Thanks to jmschrei for hosting last week. Another first time host here so let me know if something isn't right.

POTW is a great place to show what you're shooting day-to-day with your Pentax cameras. It gives us all a chance to virtually visit with one another, to get a glimpse of what it's like where others live and where they've been, and to extend the same invitation to others to share what we've been seeing.

The best pictures can only be taken with the camera you are carrying with you, so have you camera with you and keep always an eye on the things which are and happen around you.

Again same rules as before:

1) No theme, just post your favourite pix.

2) Let's keep it to under 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Date: Sunday 11 July 2010 to Sunday 25 July 2010. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes. Old shots with a new look from post-processing during the open time period are also welcome.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via PM. If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Ready? Great! Shoot and post!

Robin,
I am usually not much into the pet pictures, but these two are very nice. Good work!

Thanks Steve. I must say I have attained a new appreciation of pet photos this last year. These were shot on the first day with my new flash gun, the Metz 58.

Robin, I was wondering what was in the dog's eye. It's you with the flash! Very nicely executed, neither one has the 'flash' look.

This little guy was not camera shy at all. Both pictures are of the same dragonfly.

I have always hated flash and the only reason I am using one now is to broaden the range of my techniques. But I certainly don't want the flash look! Thanks for your encouragement.

No-one's posted in 12 hours? OK, I'd better remedy that.

I love watching what this little group can do in one week. There are a lot of great photos and photographers this week. Thanks to everyone for playing.

I'll play one last time. I'm not sure if my six shots can be in two separate posts but since I'm running this show here are three more;-)

Who wants to volunteer for next week?

Some pics playing with a lens baby, not quite the lens to use for checking sharpness using a brick wall though.

I haven't played this week. Been too busy, first my computer crashed with bad hdd, so I spent all of this last week trying to decide what I was going to do...finally got me back up and running. I wanted a 1TB drive, but suffice it to say that didn't happen.

Anyway, on to the photos I took in the last few days.

This one I took this morning:
Gulf Fritillary:

Swallowtail in flight, also taken this morning.

Sunlit Swallowtail:

And Vaughn, if you haven't found someone to host, I will.

Love this shot! What lens did you use? I sure would hate to have to make my way across that carpet after one too many!

Thanks, I was using my go-to lens. The Sigma 10-20 F4-5.6. I tend to use it more than any of my other lenses. I'm still waiting for the ultra-wide love to wear off. The carpet was a trip. The whole place makes opulent sound like an understatement.
