Photo of the Week #124, July 25 - August 8, 2010
Posted By: casil403, 08-01-2010, 03:27 AM

Welcome to the 124th edition of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week!
This edition covers photos taken between July 25 and August 8, 2010, or shots from last week you haven't processed until now.

Thanks to pop4 for hosting last week and thanks for choosing me as the host. It's my second time doing the hosting duties and I am looking forward to this one as much as I did the last one.

POTW is a great place to show what you're shooting day-to-day with your cameras. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax cameras in their parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas and hopefully learn from one another which is great too!

So slap that Pentax/Samsung around your neck or pop it in your pocket this week and show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! I look forward to seeing all of what's out there this week.

Again same rules as before:

1) No theme, just post your favourite pix.

2) Let's keep it to under 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Date: Sunday July 25 to Sunday August 8 2010. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes. Old shots with a new look from post-processing during the open time period are also welcome.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via PM. If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Previous hosts: Each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look past at the previous 117 weeks. 1 Peter Zack, 2Eaglerapids 3 rmtagg, 4 Peter Zack, 5 daacon, 6 Bramela, 7 mtnbearhug, 8 dantuyhoa, 9 gawan,10 roentarre, 11 daacon, 12 Kris, 13 mtnbearhug, 14 SCGushue, 15 daacon, 16 maxwell1295, 17 dantuyhoa, 18 daacon, 19 maxwell1295 19(2) daacon, 20 Bramela, 21 Syb, 22 maxwell1295, 23 maxwell1295, 24 dantuyhoa, 25 Gawan, 26 Peter Zack, 27 borno, 28 daacon, 29 gawan, 30 Damn Brit, 31 maxwell1295 32 maxwell1295 , 33 dantuyhoa, 34 daacon, 35 Peter Zack, 36 Damn Brit, 37 Borno, 38 Kevint, 39 Peter Zack, 40 Timbo13, 41 daacon, 42 daacon, 43 gawan, 44 dantuyhoa, 45 daacon, 46 Rense, 47 daacon, 48 Rense, 49 borno, 50 Rense, 51 daacon, 52 Peter Zack, 53 Peter Zack, 54 dadipentax, 55 David Whiteley, 56 planedriver, 57 daacon,58 Bramela, 59 daacon, 60 gawan, 61 virgilr, 62 daacon, 63 RickL, 64 Peter Zack, 65 Peter Zack, 66 Causey 67 daacon, 68 Bramela, 69 georgeweb, 70 daacon, 71 seacapt, 72 daacon, 73 AOski, 74 Rense 75 eccs19, 76 daacon, 77 xs400, 78 daacon, 79 Bramela, 80 borno, 81 legacyb4, 82 daacon, 83 gawan, 84 Rense, 85 Peter Zack, 86 davef, 87 davef, 88 xjjohnno 89 Bramela , 90 Peter Zack, 91 daacon, 92 stevebrot ,93 reeftool, 94 jezza323, 95 oldschool, 96 Iris, 97 Rense, 98 planedriver, 99 xs400, 100 Peter Zack, 101 Netuser 102 Photolady, 103 Tamia, 104 Irishwhite, 105 Ramseybuckeye, 106 xjjohnno, 107 Bumbibop, 108 JeffJS, 109 Tpeace, 110 Nomad, 111 Photolady, 112 rparmar, 113 Peter Zack, 114 casil403, 115 Tamia 116 JeffJS, 117 bbluesman, 118 Clou, 119 ruggiex, 120 Jimbow007, 121 jmschrie, 122 VaughnA 123 pop4, 124 casil403

I see. But the new one and all the other ones, run from a week before to a week after. You'd have been safe to post in the new one even though the photos were taken on the 31st.

ManhattanProject - thanks for the kind words !

Joe - cool sign , that is an event for sure seen a couple in Vegas. Nice park shots as well.

chinotenshi - great fireworks shots ! Something I have to attempt as well.

Tom - Nice captures I am so jelous you have a place like that ! That Goldfinch is great nice colors.

ohce - nothing wrong with spending the day with kids , looks like a grand time. Great shots (it would be better if those darn lights were not in the background)

Mark - nice slice of life shots. Love the last one , I'll bet he has a few stories.

Went out in the heat of the day to a local man made wetlands ...

We have had a lot of rain and sunshine thus the grass is exceedingly tall and tick here

Just a snapshot of part of the area

I startled this pellican damn and he took off. They are a big bird I wish he was flying the other way , only had the 55-300 on , a noisy slow lens (but great quality for the price IMHO)

WOW!
Only 24 hours in this week and great shots already....you folks have been busy this weekend. Unfortunately, I have been busy working so not much time for photos. Fingers crossed that may change tomorrow on my only day off.
So now I am sitting with a glass of reisling enjoying all this week has to offer so far....

Dave...love the bison shots.... especially the one big fella in the dirt....Very neat.
Mar the bluejays are lovely...especially liking the first one with the food in his mouth.
reeftool that is a great catch of the water lily....I really dig the reflections.
Georg...great shots of coneflowers...also called echinachea.
Clou....looks like you had a nice walk in the park. The butterfly really quite pretty. The swan looks like it is on a mission in the 2nd shot.
Dave...where did you take the second set of landscape shots? They are beautiful. And I like the pelican in the third set. I have yet to take a shot of them this year....too busy.
Joe...ya beat me to the mural. I saw them painting it about a month ago and was going to head there when I get a chance. It turned out really awesome and you captured it well. Love the park at McDougall Center too.
Chinotenshi...great set of fireworks. I have yet to attempt them...hopefully when i do they will turn out as good.
Tom...looks like you had a successful day of birdwatching out there...nicely done!
Ohce...great actions shots of your boy...looks like he is having fun and hamming it up!
Mark.....another cool set of people shots for sure...I like your candids
Ivotjuh....welcome to POTW and yes I do like your shot.
Gawan....Nice white puffy clouds in your image....looks like a lovely summer day at the dock.
Eccs....not at all boring. I love lillies....they are right up in 2nd position right as my fave flowers behind tulips. I'll bet the smelled awesome and I can envision them on my dining room table right now....lol!
PFH....Lovely sailboat shot...mann I wish I was there instead of pulling 6 days a week right now....looking at that photo evokes a feeling of calmness that I need so thanks for that.

Thanks again I enjoyed seeing what is out there....hopefully I can get my camera out and take some shots tomorrow.
Oh btw, I wanted to mention something really cool happened to me last week photo wise. I won a photo competition. It is for a huge building and development trade show coming to Calgary...it is for building owners, developers, architects designers (interior and exterior) and basically everything having to do with commercial real estate here in Calgary. I won $550 and my winning photo will be the theme image of the entire tradeshow. it will be printed on tickets and on the cover of the trade info magazine with credit given back to me every time they use it. I have never won anything before so I am so excited. Anyhow, I thought I would share.

Congratulations on your win Lisa! I will have to keep my eye out for advertisements for this trade show. I would like to see your take on the Cirque du Soliel mural. I took about a dozen shots but was happiest with one that caught the angle I had first seen it from when I was driving by.

So on the way to the grocery store yesterday I snapped off a few quick shots at the church across the street. LOL when I am itching to take photos but I have no time I usually make a stop here...gets me through. These are sweet peas and they smell heavenly.
