P52-3-6 Focus: Selective
Posted By: Rense, 09-03-2010, 01:00 AM

Week 3-6 of Project 52 will be the second one in which we will to explore some
focus techniques. This weeks challenge is "Selective focus". So I want to see photos
where only the subject (or part of the subject) you want to
emphasize is in focus.

Just some backgrounds and some ideas:
How to use selective focus techniques?
The art of selective focus
Slective focus - Stock photos

Time Frame: pictures for week 4 are to be taken and posted between
201000904 and 20100912, so from September 4th - September 12th, 2010.

Rules:
1. Anyone and everyone who is interested in eligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-3 thread for the week. Explain what
motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by nonPentax
cameras are allowed
. Cameras can be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot and Medium Format.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc.
, for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is
active
to be eligible for judging.
8. Any picture taken from 20100731 to listed closing date is acceptable for the two
“Seasonal” competitions – Projects 52-3-51 & 52.

Additional Information, including the scheme with subjects: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/mini-challenges-games-photo-stories/10506...-year-3-a.html

Have fun shooting!

The focus is on the butterfly, The flowers are actually hanging out of a basket that was blowing and turning in the wind. The edge of the flowers is in bright sunshine,

Okay, here is my contribution. I took a lot of shots with my macro-ish lens but I preferred the depth I was able to get with a wide angle lens as degrees of focus. The leaf in the centre is in focus. (Of course I may change my mind before the week is up)

Grazing

Shot this for Single in September on Sunday, but feel it works out well here too. I'd like to do a dedicated shot for this though, so I may change it later in the week if I get that chance. EDIT: Same basic photo but decided a square crop helps it fit the challenge better.

SMC-Pentax 1:2.5 135mm @ f/4 (I think) 1/200", ISO 400

Hopefully you could tell I was focusing on his eye.

Really good entries here!

Here's mine, a kayaker on the lip of a 30' waterfall as a spectator watches from the top of a cliff across the river.

Hi, I'm new to this challenge and I hope you regulars don't mind if I join in from time to time.

My picture is trying to highlight the white flower that is being "stood over" by it's dead friends.

The lens was my K55 f2.
