P52-3-7 Focus: Deep
Posted By: Rense, 09-10-2010, 02:03 AM

Week 3-7 of Project 52 will be the third and last one in which we will explore some
focus techniques. This weeks challenge is "Deep focus". That means that we will
try to shoot photos with everything in focus, from foreground to background. This
is a technique that is used very often in landscape photography, but I guess we
can find many other subjects suitable for this technique!

Just some backgrounds and some ideas:
Wiki - Deep focus
Eastenders - Deep focus cinematography
Dpchallenche - Deep DOF

Time Frame: pictures for week 4 are to be taken and posted between
20100911 and 20100919, so from September 11th - September 19th, 2010.

Rules:
1. Anyone and everyone who is interested in eligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-3 thread for the week. Explain what
motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by nonPentax
cameras are allowed
. Cameras can be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot and Medium Format.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc.
, for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is
active
to be eligible for judging.
8. Any picture taken from 20100731 to listed closing date is acceptable for the two
“Seasonal” competitions – Projects 52-3-51 & 52.

Have fun shooting!

No, I didn't. Are there photos of me, or can't you enter the site?

I am a registered member there and have entered a few challenges. For me, it is like the Project 52 challenges but with PP restrictions. If the challenge topic interests me or I'm shooting something that fits the topic, I enter the challenge.

Rense: I think Dan thinks that you could do well at that site. I do like the Deep Focus topic a lot. Now I have to see if I can find/think of something to shoot.

Tim, that is exactly what I think. I think it's a good site and a good place to go for some inspiration, just like here.

I registered today and plan on entering a few contests in the future, if I ever feel my photograph is worthy enough to do so.

I guess I will jump in here. I took a lot of shots for this challenge this past weekend. I know landscape is the typical forum for deep focus, but this is what I enjoy photographing. I have decided to enter this image but may change my mind before the week is up.
I decided to change my entry to another shot taken the same morning. I have been humming and hawing all week about which shot to use. I hope it is okay.

Oh good, and they have pushed back that call for rain/wet snow until next week now.

That must be another fence, this shot was taken on a range road off highway 8 heading toward Bragg Creek, but thanks!

After a number of experiments, I finally went with this one, calm along the riverbank just after a heavy rain and wind brought down some early fall leaves.

Splendour of the Salt Marsh

I had a job to do at Texel, the largest of our Wadden Isles, together with Iris.
This is the time of year when the salt marsh species start to colour. With a quite
low sun between some rain showers, I managed to shoot this one. I hope you like it.
