P52-3-10 People: Street
Posted By: Rense, 09-30-2010, 11:23 PM

Another People week! The theme of this week is probably something several
of us have never done before: "Street". The goal is not the pavement - although
it could give nice photos too, I'm sure - but the living at the street, the people.
Street photography is usually seen as a documentary style, brought to great heights
by people like Gary Winogrand, Henry Cartier Bresson and others. The world wide
web is loaded with many great and easy to find examples, but I will give you
some places to start.

Just some backgrounds and some ideas:
Capture a stranger street style. Of course this one can't be missed, it's a must see!!!
Documentary and Street Photography @ The Luminous Landscape
Street Photography @ Photo.net
The beauty of street photography with many examples!

Time Frame: pictures for week 4 are to be taken and posted between
20101002 and 20101010, so from October 2nd - October 10th, 2010.

Rules:
1. Anyone and everyone who is interested in eligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-3 thread for the week. Explain what
motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by nonPentax
cameras are allowed
. Cameras can be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot and Medium Format.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc.
, for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is
active
to be eligible for judging.
8. Any picture taken from 20100731 to listed closing date is acceptable for the two
“Seasonal” competitions – Projects 52-3-51 & 52.

I've never set out to try street photography before, and I'm not completely sure what all it encompasses. Still, I gave it a try when I went shopping the other day. We do most of our commuting and chores with bikes, and while the bikes were parked in the supermarket lot, I shot pictures with the bike as a bit of cover, hoping for candids. This was the one I liked most, though it's grainy. I call it...

Pulling Faces

I don't know if the woman in the car scowled because she saw my camera or not, but she seemed almost to be mimicing the "face" made by the two small vents and the window in the building wall.

Initially I aimed for the tent, but then I saw this and kept taking photos.

I felt that sepia was the most suited version.

I find it always scary taking streetshots, but I find the results often surprising.
Shot today with the FA 50mmF/1.4.

I was a bit worried I wouldn't find a decent subject, or couldn't make a decent photo, but this one, made today, makes me happy.... Shot in our small village this afternoon...
