POTW #140 - November 14 - November 28
Posted By: daacon, 11-21-2010, 07:10 AM

Welcome to the 140th edition of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week!

Thanks to Rense for hosting last week and asking me this week.

This edition covers photos taken between November 14th to November 28th , 2010, or shots from last week you haven't processed until now.

A special welcome to all new members: feel free to post your shots from this week and last week!

Most important note: Everyone feel free to post your shots from this week and last week!

POTW is a great place to show what you're shooting day-to-day with your cameras. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax cameras in their parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas and hopefully learn from one another which is great too!

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week.

Again same rules as before:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Date: Sunday November 14th to Sunday November 28th 2010. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via PM. If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Previous hosts: Each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look back at the previous POTW's.

So let’s get started! I have been house bound more or less will try and get out this week , although it’s going to be a busy work week for me.

November is birthday month for the kids. This was the first one we missed for my daughter as we were in Vegas, so we celebrated both on my Son’s birthday a mere 10 days later.

What can every 19 year old use?? Cash of course!

The Kids with their cakes ….

Even the dog gets a small amount of ice cream his favorite!

One Family tradition is we always go out for dinner. Here we are at the Keg – the kids are real people now so their boyfriends / girlfriends get to come , and the days of chicken fingers and fries have long since been replaced with steak, crab and salmon !

Let the games begin!

Great start, Dave, and thanks for hosting. Those cakes look yummy!

This morning I saw a very large flock of birds land in the top of an ash across the road. They were soaking up as much of the sunrise warmth they could in 20-degree F temps. Got a couple shots through the window with my Pentax 50-20mm before they flew away. Turns out they're Bohemian waxwings:

Here are shots from an afternoon hike on a rare sunny day this last week, all shot with the DA 18-55mm II kit lens...

They do, thanks!
And congrats of course with your son & daughter's birthdays.
That cake looks delicious!!!!!

Great colours, Tamia. I'm not too big of a fan of Bob Ross water, but the colours I like a lot.

Thanks for hosting daacon, and thank s for taking on last week, Rense.

Just one for now, I have to clean out some space on Flickr or start using my gallery more...

Not my greatest shot by far, but this sparrow sat still for a few seconds a few days ago. Slightly out of focus, but for some reason I still kinda like it...maybe it's the soft look...Rokinon 75-300 lens.

Hi Dave, thanks for hosting. I enjoyed the birthday photos. My own kids' birthdays are coming up. My daughter is counting the days to her 18th and the ability to legally drink in bars and restaurants while my son is coming up on 21 so he is rushing in some dental work while he is still on my insurance plan!

At the moment this is my only "new" photo, taken a few days ago but it still looks the same out there. I have been hibernating this weekend while it's minus 20-something.

KarenH - thanks for the comments - yes we are pleased they lived this long (during the early teen years there was some doubt )

Tamia - thanks for the comments. Nice series particularly like the first one with the motion blur. The reflections and overall color of the water shots are very nice as well. Seems it's still fall in your neck of the woods nicely done.

Paleo Pete - just one but it's a good one , bird is a little centered for my liking but it is a crisp shot.

Jeff - nicely done - glad I am not the only one with winter !Funky bokeh on that shot, I like it.

Joe - thanks ! Our kids are pretty close in age ! 18 was last year for the Boy - pub crawl - came home a bloody mess - watch out (Daughter is 21 so now legal world wide!). Yes nice shot in fact I tool the exact same shot a few minutes ago haha!

Rense - Joe and I are not going to be giving any beach shots for the next few POTW threads (pending a trip which in early 2011 ..... can 't wait !).

oh and one for Joe ...

and one that I was going to enter the Complementary color
Project 52 thread until I realized they were not Complementary colors haha

A little flash fill helped show the snowflakes and made the colors pop I think :-)

A Couple for Rense

How will these do, Rense. We are in the midst of oncoming summer, at present averaging 25-30degC. A lot hotter just around the corner.

I feel for all you folks in those freezing temps, ice snow etc. etc. I don't know what it would be like, never experienced it.

To be honest, +25-30c is about as hot as I can handle. I don't really mind the ice and snow, what I really dislike is driving in it!

I visited Hanging Falls in Colorado yesterday. It was a difficult hike, but worth it.

I was able to work in behind the falls for this shot:

Here's a couple from the front:
