P52-3-18 Colour: Ton-sur-Ton / one colour
Posted By: Rense, 11-26-2010, 03:42 PM

Another Colour week! After a week of opposite colours, we want to explore
the effect of nearby colours: Ton-sur-Ton and/or One Colour. The idea is to
make a photo in one colour and its variations, without the help of PP. (Of course
PP is allowed for cropping, sharpening etc., but not for recolouring...).

Just some backgrounds and some ideas:
Ton-sur-ton on Flickr

Time Frame: pictures for week 18 are to be taken and posted between
20101127 and 20101205, so from November 27th - December 5th, 2010.

Rules:
1. Anyone and everyone who is interested in eligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-3 thread for the week. Explain what
motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by nonPentax
cameras are allowed. Cameras can be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot and Medium Format.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is
active to be eligible for judging.
8. Any picture taken from 20100731 to listed closing date is acceptable for the two
“Seasonal” competitions – Projects 52-3-51 & 52.

Additional Information, including the scheme with subjects: P52 year 3

Have fun shooting!

Let's ask this question to clarify since many of the examples were B/W sketches: You are trying to have "color" photos here, right? B/W shots certainly qualify for the style, and you could get around the PPing rule by setting the camera to Monochrome, but that's (hopefully) not what you're looking for correct?

John, that's correct! Yes, many sketches there, but I want to see COLOUR PHOTOS, not B&W's , not even in-camera B&W's. (I couldn't find better examples....)

Rense,

Thanks for confirming what I thought. Just wanted to make sure we're all on the same sheet of music.

I think this shot is too old, but would it qualify otherwise? Shot a little over a week ago I think, (haven't looked at the EXIF data) but all brown except for the white on the spider.

Is this the right idea???

OK, looked at the EXIF, it's definitely disqualified due to the date, but maybe this will give everyone an idea what you are looking for, or not...your link above won't open right now so I can't look...

EDIT: Picture deleted.

Is this the right idea? It was taken yesterday.

If it's too big, I can resize?

I knew it was too old, and will be deleted (if I can) for that reason. I tried your link 4 or 5 times, kept getting an error message, server time out I think. So I posted that to see if i was getting the right idea.

Thanks, I'll go see if I can delete it. I knew it was automatically disqualified from the start because of the time frame...

Don't have anything right now, but I'll be looking, maybe I can get something decent, this seems like an interesting project...if I have time, starting a much needed job today so photography time will be short.

The setting sun on the faded leaves clinging to this wolf willow (my absolute favourite plant to photograph) struck me, when I looked at it on the computer, as an example of ton sur ton.

You did not have to delete your image! Next time you can just mention it's not for judging! I think it's always nice to see examples.

Well, I can put it back, but that was the intention to begin with. Find out, then delete it...

So far nothing that will work from the appointed time frame, but I'm keeping my eye open for a good shot...
