POTW #141 - November 21 - December 5
Posted By: Tamia, 11-28-2010, 06:31 AM

Welcome to the 141th edition of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week!

Thanks to Dave for hosting last week and for asking me this week. Enjoy the game, Dave!

This edition covers photos taken between November 21st to December 5th, 2010, or shots from last week you haven't processed until now.

A special welcome to all new members: Join us old hands and post your shots from this week and last week!

Most important note to everyone: Remember, you can post your shots from this week AND last week!

POTW is a great place to show what you're shooting day-to-day with your cameras. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax cameras in their parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas and hopefully learn from one another which is great too!

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week.

Again same rules as before:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Date: Sunday November 21st to Sunday December 5th 2010. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Previous hosts: Each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look back at the previous POTW's.

I'm a little early posting this new edition of POTW, because I'll be working today, and I'd rather let Dave off the hook early than late. Here are some photos from this last week to kick things off...

LOL PP, if you were 'normal' you would have used another brand of camera, I guess
Yeah maybe so, but I like my Pentax cameras too much and already had a half dozen good lenses. Met a girl carrying a Canon that day too, she leaned over a bit too check out the brand on my camera, then didn't seem to be interested in talking photography any more...

I guess I'm glad I'm not "normal"....

Iris, Brrrr is a great shot! Could easily have been boring, but there is something magical about it.

Iris, at least you had some sun! Well done street shots, particularly that the people don't seem to realize they're being photographed. The glazier seems immune to the cold, but the occupants of the building better be wearing their sweaters. So how are your knees feeling?
Thanks Tamia! They see me, they even talk about me, but they don't always realise I am taking their picture.

Thanks! I still find it scary to shoot people, but it's getting less already

Yeah the more you do it the easier it gets. I've been shooting with 18mm and almost kneeling on people's shoes! I'm even finding that with the Taiwanese I can make it kind of a game after I spring on them give big smile and show them picture. Most enjoy this. So maybe Javier isn't a crazy fool... Just crazy street photog

If I can recall correctly you normally use a 90mm, so 18mm is a big difference!
I changed my normal 50mm for a 28mm for street photography, but used a 135mm a month inbetween (SIN). Huge difference...

Tamia, thank you for your kind comments and for being our host.

I like the set you posted. At first I was alarmed at 'Across the Footbridge'. It didn't register immediately seeing footprints going in only one direction and seemingly going nowhere. I thought this was some sort of suicidal 'walking the plank'. Love the Cickadee shot. Obviously fluffed up to keep warm. These are known in UK and Europe as Tits (mainly Blue Tit and Great Tit). Here in Greece we do see them but we also have many Owls so the Tits tend to hide themselves in rural areas.

So many great photos here this week. This is still my favorite forum.

Here is the first picture I took after SiN. I picked up a Vivitar 2X Macro Focusing Converter a couple of weeks ago and coupled it to my Pentax-A 1: 50mm.

A couple more images from last weekend's outing. I just came back from a walk but want to let my camera come to room temperature before looking to see if I captured anything interesting.

Hey Dave, thanks, and you still have a few hours to post in this week's POTW!

Thanks Karen, the chickadee was fluffed against 20-degree (F) cold. Wait till you see them with the temperature drops to zero and below.

Pete, I was lucky with the chickadee. The small troupe who live here know me and let me perch near their feeder so I could try and get pix of them. Dim light, though, and the K200D doesn't render as sharply in low light as the later camera models. Chickadees are so quick, I have to shoot manually and often pre-focus on their favorite branches. That Carolina chickadee of yours was probably hunting bugs or seeds. They also line nests with the cattail fluff.

Mark, interesting juxtaposition with the young "breakdancer" and the elderly woman with a walker in the background.

Iris, you've gotten very good with street scenes, and are braver than I am! I have to go in search of some concentrations of people to get practice. Mark and Javier are masters at this game!

Robin, great portraits! Love the B&W treatment here.

John (Fotaki), thanks much. , those are my footprints leading down the bridge, but I came round another way to get them unsullied by return steps. I was aiming for getting the texture of the snow, so the rest of the pic is dark. As for the tits, I saw a very amusing photo of a blue tit poking his head out of a horizontal metal pipe as the snow fell. It was a shot in The Independent. Unfortunately, the photo was sent to me by a correspondent without the corresponding link.

Xjjohnno, I love those market shots. The lens(es) you use produce such good bokeh and color.

James (Jimbow007), that is one bright and detailed photo. Lovely! The converter works very well, I'd say.

Ah, so you DID get out to shoot, Dave! Looking forward to seeing the same scenes all lit up!

Joe, such beautiful serene scenics from your part of the world. The more I see the more I like Alberta.

Three more from me, which I took with the P52: Ton-sur-Ton contest in mind...
