P52-3-21 Light - Night
Posted By: Rense, 12-16-2010, 10:34 AM

A new round, around the theme Light! And the first week - week 21 of
P52-3 - the concept is Night. Not a thing most of us do on a daily basis
but a thing most of us try every now and then. I want to see photos made between
dusk and dawn.... (the dark period...)

Just some backgrounds and some ideas:
night photography lesson
night photography tutorial
60 beautiful examples: just for inspiration

Time Frame: pictures for week 21 are to be taken and posted between
20101218 and 20101226, so from December 18th - December 26th, 2010.

Rules:
1. Anyone and everyone who is interested in eligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-3 thread for the week. Explain what
motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by nonPentax
cameras are allowed. Cameras can be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot and Medium Format.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is
active to be eligible for judging.
8. Any picture taken from 20100731 to listed closing date is acceptable for the two
“Seasonal” competitions – Projects 52-3-51 & 52.

Additional Information, including the scheme with subjects: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/mini-challenges-games-photo-stories/10506...-year-3-a.html.

Have fun shooting!

Encouragement Entry

These are not for the competition, just an encouragement to participate.

I do not know yet, if I have the time for a night photowalk, but I will try.

Tramway

Through the gate

BMW-World

Snow and Lighting

Octogon

Most of them were already posted here, but I hope it will encourage many to participate.

Thanks for sharing those Clou, I have appreciated your ability to capture the night for some time now. Fortunately for those of us in the northern hemisphere, there is more "night" each day this coming week than at any other time of the year so more opportunities to photograph it.

Thanks Joe. I hope there will be some entries soon. My PTO starts with the longest night in the year. Hope that I will have time then.
I like the night for taking photos - the variety of light, colors, reflections, shadows is wonderful.

Advent

I took this photo tonight with two objectives in mind, the 12 Days of Christmas challenge and this weeks' Project 52. I actually noticed this church with its decorated tree several weeks ago and promised myself I would come back during the 12 Days time frame and attempt to capture it. Conveniently this week's theme is night (thanks for that Rense). I'm pretty pleased with this as a handheld ISO 400, f/4.5, 1/4 sec shot. It was too cold to fuss with a tripod!

Shrevepoprt's Riverwalk, right beside the Mississippi River, has a couple of waterfalls and these huge flowers, made of steel grating. This is one of the few decent shots I got that night.

Taken yesterday-night. The snow in the tree reflects the light of the light-pole whichs stands at the left. The snow makes everything less dark anyway.

Never done it before, this kind of photography.
In our neighborhood it's very dark, only farmers with there blinds shut, so we went to a little town Acqui Terme.
I did the vignetting in Lightroom, with 4 graduated filters.
