POTW 151 30 January - 13 February
Posted By: Clou, 02-05-2011, 04:50 PM

Welcome to the 151st edition of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week!

Thanks to Nomad for hosting last week and for passing the torch to me for this week.

This edition covers photos taken between January 31st and February 13th, 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week! Not a bad deal, eh?

A special welcome to all new members: Join us old hands and post your shots from this week and last week!

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week.

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Date: Sunday January 31st to Sunday February 13th 2011. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Previous hosts: Each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look back at the previous POTW's.

JeffJS - Interesting Series, the last pic has something creepy to me (but that could be me).

Some interesting shots this week. Fortunately our snow has almost all melted and it's back into decent temps for a change, after over a week of freezing my butt off...15°F yesterday at daylight...and I HATE cold weather...I get cold easier than most people, 60° and I'm in a jacket...

Got the Sears 80-200 back out and started to use it a bit more this week, mainly because I wanted to switch to a 50mm quick without the hassle of the M42 adapter. It got one of my nicest Heron shots yet, and several others that are pretty good.

Great Blue Heron taken this morning, Sears 80-200 at f8. I think it's one of the best yet.

Great White Egret taken a few minutes later, either f8 or f11, same lens, f11 I think. I switched a few times...

Another egret shot, same bird and location cropped a bit tighter at 1024x768.

Another shot of the same Heron just before it flew, the previous shot was about the third after it left the tree limb. This was one of the last shots before he flew away a couple of minutes later.

The heron let me get pretty close, but only about 30 - 40 feet. Closer than usual...the egret let me get very close too, about 20 feet. About as close as I ever get.

contrast pushed about 20% on all, no other editing except crop and resize.

Clou, thanks for hosting us this week

I seem to be stuck on shooting Greek Markets lately. Here are a few from our own Saturday market in Oropos. It's quite a busy place, even attracting shoppers from Athens - 50Km away. One thing I admire is the good humor shown by all.

This will be one of the last of my posts from Greece for a while. Off to the UK next week (unfortunately). Hope to be posting something from there soon.

Olives galore

Nomad - Ducks, I alway wonder how they cope with the cold, but currently I feel urged to look here when I see a duck I cannot figure out what the snow-sculpture means...

Paleo Pete - It is always a pleasure to me to see your bird shots. The first one is a winner.

fotaki - Thanks for showing the market impressions, it is like being there. The last one is my favorite.

reeftool - Right place and right time. Great action shot.

I haven't been out much lately...I think my photo mojo is kind of hibernating this winter!
I did get out for a bit on the prairie yesterday and brought these home:

That first shot is especially striking Lisa! I love skies like that!

Ok, I'll bite. Here are a couple that I took yesterday. I'm kinda literal when I name my pictures.

Thanks for hosting Clou

casil403 - Lisa, the first one is just great. That sky needs a lot of space!

drugal - love the color contrast of the first shot. The second one is a classic, but the curved cloud add a twist.

I've heard that from you before, Lisa, and just like last time you've disproved your assertion with the first shot you post!
