POTW 152 6 February - 20 February
Posted By: drugal, 02-13-2011, 02:12 PM

Welcome to the 152nd edition of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week

Thanks to Clou for hosting last week and for passing the torch to me for this week.

This edition covers photos taken between February 6th and 20th, 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week! Not a bad deal, eh?

A special welcome to all new members: Join us old hands and post your shots from this week and last week!

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week.

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Date: Sunday February 6th to Sunday February 20th 2011. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Previous hosts: Each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look back at the previous POTW's.

Thanks for starting it off so well.

I really like the patterns of the clouds in your first shot.

The street shot of the man by his car is a nice candid shot, too.

The tones are really interesting in these shots, I assume that comes from your IR modified camera

Thank you and Yes. Fort street is full of neat stuff to shoot with that camera.

drugal - Thanks for hosting. I was invited but am not in a position to do a decent job of it so I declined.

Grabbed a few shots this morning, some came out pretty good so I'll show off a couple.

Eastern Phoebe taken with Sears 80-200 mod 202 lens at f8. Crop and resize, no other editing.

Same bird down in the shadows grabbing a snack. We had a hard freeze, snow still on the ground yesterday, small patches today, and a butterfly was out this afternoon...go figure. It's a Question Mark, the Phoebe snagged it before I could even think about trying for a picture.

Pretty long distance shot of a Ring Necked duck. Same lens and settings, crop and resize only.

Very common shot for me, Great Blue Heron flying over. Sears 80-200 again, f8. Crop and resize, contrast pushed 20%.

I admire your ability to catch that last shot, tried my hand at getting a bird in flight yesterday and ended up getting blur on the wings

Personally, I like the first one best. The OOF areas make the bird pop out to my eye, thanks for posting.

drugal, thanks for taking on hosting duties so soon after joining the forum. It is a great way to get to know some of the usual suspects. We had a really nice weekend here weather wise and I got a chance to get out for a couple of really enjoyable walks with my camera. I haven't processed too many yet but here are a couple from a trip downtown yesterday.

I've always thought some of the forum members a little on the stiff side but that's ridiculous.

Thanks for hosting so soon into your membership here, drugal... +rep points by way of thanks.

Great photos already, you guys. It's so nice to see photos of sunny scenes. Spring can't come soon enough. Meanwhile, there's still snow to shoot...

I spent the weekend at the motorcycle and ATV races on Lake George this weekend. By the end of the day, my card had 1137 shots. I'm loading them on my Picasa page as I go through them. Most were with my new to me M300/4.

drugal...thanks for hosting us this week - your baptism of fire

Some excellent photos coming in.

Pete, love those bird shots and the Sears optic really shines. If I'm correct you also use Lentar and Rokinon lenses. Which is your choice for wildlife ? I ask because as soon as I'm back in the UK I will be trying out a Tamron SP 60-300mm (plus a 2x SP convertor). Gonna try my hand at this stuff, so will be posting for some tips.

A few more of my Saturday market outing.

What a job! Gutting/cleaning fish - a free service to customers

....this is what happens when you get to clean too many fishes

If you get hungry have a tasty Souvlaki

One of my favourite market characters. This guy shows up every week in all weathers - always cheerful
