POTW 153: 20 February - 6 March 2011

Welcome to the 153rd edition of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week. Thanks to drugal for hosting last week and for passing the torch to me.

This edition covers photos taken between 20 February and 6 March, 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favourite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Previous hosts: Each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look back at the previous POTW's.

More colours
Oil drops in water, but it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to.
Liked it anyhow.

Really? Did you get your camera back?
Or were they delivering some other very nice package?

Yep. Haven't opened the box yet but it's here.

Dinner was on the stove. I already know the K5 is a sweet camera so I could wait a couple hours ...

I haven't looked for stains, dust, and the like (yet) but.....

K5, FA*24mm f2.0 at f3.5 ISO3200, 2x 40w incandescent light bulbs lighting the room. One behind him and one to the right of him. Some pretty heavy noise reduction applied in ACR.

You just knew I would have to get the Hound to consent to another photo, didn't you?

LOL at the UPS truck shot! Anticipation!!

By coincidence the mailman brought me a new toy as well. Have it unpacked and will try a few shots later today. No, it's not a K-5 nor even anything from the last few decades...

Almost forgot to mention but the oil abstract is very well done. I should try this some time.

Haven't been online for a few days, laptop problems, hard drive decided to commit suicide...all pictures backed up so I didn't lose anything. Then couldn't get online at all, so it's been a while...anyway...

Couple from recent excursions.

Been trying to shoot a Kestrel for a long time, they never let me get close enough for even a long shot. This guy sat still for a couple of minutes...Sears 80-200 f8

Every winter geese fly down here and I've tried many times to get some shots. always too far from the roads and I can't wander across some farmer's field, they love to call the cops...these were close enough finally, probably 1500 geese or more, this is a small section of the whole group. No time right now or I'd post more...Sears 80-200 again

And one of my favorites, sparrows. this one let me get about 15 feet away and shoot probably 20 shots. A few came out good. This is another White Throated Sparrow, Sears 80-200 f8

And one that will go into the Tiny Flowers thread too, probably tomorrow. First of the early spring blooms, along with Dandelions and Bluets, I think it's Woods Corn Salad - Pentax A 50mm and binocular lens macro rig.

Mostly shot the 19th. No newer ones uploaded yet, thought I had a Bluet but it's not the one I wanted...

Thanks Pete for adding your photos. I love kestrels and other birds of prey I must say, especially owls.

I really like the last one, Pete. Nice bokeh.

Still having snow, Jeff?

And especially for Jeff, here's Rocco!

Thanks Robin.
I used sunflower oil, but that's not thick enough to give you nice drops.
Next time I'll use olive oil (but that would hurt, don't want to waste good olive oil ) or lamp oil.

Karen- You may also want to try glycerin. You might be able to get it from the drug store for next to nothing. Also mineral oil might do the trick.
