POTW 154: 20 February - 6 March 2011

Welcome to the 154th edition of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week. Thanks to rparmar (Robin) for hosting last week and for passing the torch to me.

This edition covers photos taken between 20 February and 6 March, 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Previous hosts: Each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look back at the previous POTW's.

I bought a "new" lens for under 100 clams. It is astounding me. And challenging me to be creative. Here's some from our Pentax Day trip to the woods.

I guess yesterday was Hawk day, that's all I shot all day and got a couple of keepers.

Both shot with Sears 80-200 at f8. This hawk let me get closer than most do, then turned and flew right back past me instead of the opposite direction as usual. I got several nice shots...

Vaughn: I Love the fox in the tree and the HDR is pretty appealing too. Heck, I like the entire series as the fist one is great too!!

Pop: Great mantis shots. It is a real treat when we come upon and interesting subject like that.

Robin: I hope you enjoy your new purchase and put it to good use.

Pete: Great captures of the hawk!! I love getting raptor shots when they cooperate.

Nomad - Thanks a lot, I love shooting them too but they don't cooperate often...I got a bunch of shots too. Sure was glad he decided to sit there for a while...

Got a couple of interesting shots yesterday too. I've been wanting to catch a Northern Flicker in front of my lens for a long time, only one or two long distance shots, and yesterday I got a decent one. I thought it would turn out a silhouette, being backlit, but it got some detail anyway. Sears 80-200 again...

Great stuff everyone. It's been a while since I've participated. Hopefully I can get the time actually post and comment again.

It's SO nice to see the signs of spring in many of the photos. I'm ready for winter to be over.

Nomad....many thanks for hosting us this week. Sorry to hear of your troubles with takers for next week. I would gladly volunteer but I'm in a similar situation myself ATM. Hope someone comes along.

Well I'm here in the UK but can't say impressed with the weather. When it comes to the quality of the light it's like night and day compared to Greece.

Yesterday happened to be one of the few bright days in over two weeks so took the opportunity to take a few shots with a recently acquired Tamron Adaptall 60-300mm (23A). I heard a lot of good things about this lens and thought it time I got into some 'light' nature stuff. However, Shock. Apart from being manual and fiddly, it's big and heavy. I've got to see just how well these old shaky hands cope.

All hand held with some PP to adjust levels, gamma, resizing etc.

The lens at full stretch (300mm). Quite sharp even with the aircraft which must be over a mile high

Does nice macro/close-ups as well. Problem: close-up only kicks in at 60mm.

Both shots at approx. 150mm

Elm tree showing some early signs of Spring (60mm)

One nosy and hairy little dog. Followed me everywhere for about an hour

I can pick up hosting though I may not have time to comment on each offering as I scramble to keep up with Single in March but I expect I will be at the computer A LOT!

Let me know.

Perhaps s/he liked you. When a dog likes someone, it speaks well of the person. No one comes into my house that doesn't meet The Hounds approval.
