Pic of the Week 4th thru 17th April
Posted By: christophleipzig, 04-10-2011, 06:57 AM

Welcome to the 160th edition of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week. Thanks to Tom for hosting last week!

This edition covers photos taken between 4th and 10th of April 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Previous hosts: Each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look back at the previous POTW's.

I got out for a short hike on Saturday afternoon. There was still a lot of snow but some bare spots are showing up. Along a stream, I got my first wildflower shot of the year. For whatever reason, this winter has been a little more depressing than usual and I'm happy to see it go.

Isn't it great to see some color and a fresh bloom, Richard? I know what you mean about this winter. It lingered too long. When the wild chipmunks come out, I feel hope that spring is at last here:

ambitious snake

Hello all, nice shots as usual.

I saw this on my road and got just one image. I chimp'd to change ISO, the toad lunged and the snake let go! I thought I had captive subjects, the snake would not ever let go and I could take my time to some degree.

cheers

Thnaks for hosting this week Christoph, and as you say, barely lifed off and already some great postings. Just love those shots of Jmshrei-juxtaposing the two seasons so beautifully.
StevenVH-any idea what snake that is- looks positively like a Taiwnese rat snake (one of which I possessed at one stage) and if it is, its probably a pet let loose.

Had a chance to visit a new park close to where I have just moved too. Some images and more.

Trees

Bottle Brush

Wild flowers

Kitty-feral cat

McDonalds on the Lawn- a neighbour pavement.

Christoph....thanks for hosting us this week. Lots of activity and some very nice shots being posted. I've been a bit busy elsewhere lately but managed to get out last weekend.

As usual, I picked a theme and this week covers shots close to the bridge on the river Thames here in Maidenhead (UK). Unlike some poor souls who are still suffering with cold weather, Spring is well established in the UK and the sunshine creates a lot of activity down by the river.

General view of the bridge

The Riviera Hotel. An excellent place to stop for coffee and watch the world float by

River craft come in all sizes

...and of course, the mandatory duck photo.

My thanks for hosting and posting too.

noelcmn, in my area of the US the snake pictured is very common and known as the Eastern Garter Snake. I like the sound of Taiwanese Rat Snake better, but I'm pretty sure it's a garter snake.

cheers

Your welcome. I like the first shot a lot. How one is caught by one face at the end...

Same here. The small green plants I see in Helsinki are making me properly feel, that the winter is defeated...

I don't want to know, how many movies have been shot there. I just remember "Requiem for a Dream" at the moment.

I'm still processing shots from outings last weekend, a good thing since we are currently expecting a snowstorm and a cold weekend to come. Here are a couple of more shots from Elbow Falls west of Calgary and Nose Hill, a large grasslands park in the city:

This is my first time looking at this thread (just got the K-r 6 weeks ago and am learning how to use it, and joined this board at the same time) and I'm REALLY impressed by the quality of the photography! The medium is, of course, second to none. But the talent here is very impressive. I'll try to rise to the level you people set!

Anyway, just got attachments to connect my K-r to my old Meade ETX-90 telescope. So tonight's moon was the first celestial subject. The telescope is a 1250mm, f13.8 lens. The exposure was 1/320 s, ISO 800. PP done in Lightroom to fix brightness, contrast and noise.

When I get a wireless remote that should enable longer exposures at lower ISOs, and maybe non-smudge-like pictures of Saturn and other, larger, bodies.

Wow that is most impressive... and welcome to our weekly round up of photos. no moon in my part of the world tonight, in fact it is presently snowing quite heavily.
