Weekly Challenge #172 - "Tree Study"
Posted By: Tamia, 07-05-2011, 05:45 AM

Some photographers never tire of shooting portraits of people or pets or cars. I'm that way with trees. Every tree has a personality and character, and every tree has a purpose in nature, even when it's dead. Though trees were a subject in the Weekly Challenge before, that was two years ago, and I think there's plenty of scope with this subject to warrant another visit.

For this challenge, I'd like to celebrate the character of trees. Show me photos that reveal something special about a tree. It could be a small detail or an overall grand study. Be creative! And remember, you can pull photos from your archives OR shoot a new photo for this challenge. I'll post a few shots for inspiration soon.

You have through next Tuesday, 12 July 2011, to post your entry. Have fun and make my job of judging difficult!

The fine print....
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread, and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera will do.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

Should be an interesting challenge. Here is one showing a tree softly cradling snow in its hands (branches).

Also a favourite subject of mine, though some would suspect me of being a bit on the dilly side-taking photos of trees, trunks, leaves etc. Should be an interesting challenge Tamia.
Caught betwix which one to post-my son, 16, is here from the USA, and he (typical teenager) reckons this one is cooler- so I'll enter this one (after all teenagers rule right) which I entitled-"Christmas is coming"

But my choice would be this one-title-"No hugging my bough"!

K10D, M50/1.4

I took this after a hard training session, as the floodlights shone through the mist silhouetting the bare winter trees - it and remains evocative of winter training in my mind.

I also love taking photos of trees. This was a very misty area of Sri Lanka.

WOW, great entries so far, everyone! I'm glad I'm not alone in loving to photograph trees. Joe, there's always flipping a coin.

Adirondack Fastness... what makes this tree special... This photograph would not really have worked without it... assuming it works on some level that is...

I think trees really come into their own in Autumn, especially the Acers

I have so many shots of trees I hardly know where to start. So I'll choose one I have a great memory of, since it was taken on my first day out of bed after a dire case of food poisoning. I almost killed myself walking up the hill. When I look at this photo I remember the land of Don Quixote.

I'll play with this. I'm barely exploring what this forum has around and I just found this weekly thing out. Nice.
