Weekly Challenge # 38 - At the Zoo
Posted By: atupdate, 11-22-2007, 05:32 AM

We were hoping to take the kids to the zoo this weekend but a cold front is on its way. So I'm asking you to share your favorite zoo shot.

Contest closes on Thursday Nov 29th at Midnight from where ever you live. I’ll post the winner(s) on Friday.

The rules:
1. Post ONE photo (max 800x800) as a response to THIS post.
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme. It can be colour or B&W, your choice.
3. You can offer as much or as little additional information as you wish, but I'd be interested to know the location/event/whatever being depicted.
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and chose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. The challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any camera will do but it must be a Pentax. Just use any camera you want. No discriminating anyone as long as the shooter is an active member here.

Previous Challenge Subjects:
1-Statues, 2-Wheels, 3-Speed, 4-Peace, 5-Survival, 6-Macro, 7-Mountains, 8-Children, 9-Post Processing, 10- Windows & Doors, 11-Sport, 12-Urban Landscape, 13-Wisdom, 14-Power, 15-Music, 16-Pathways, 17-Lines, 18-Storm, 19-Boats, 20-Water, 21 - Golden Hour, 22 - Natural Lighting, Portraits, 23- Motion Blur, 24-Simplicity, 25-Color, 26-Cars, 27-Repetition, 28-Wildlife, 29-Epiphany, 30-Contrast, 31-Pets, 32-Landscapes, 33-Coastal, 34-Churches, 35-Bridges, 36-Creation, 37-Still LIfe: Food

Good luck to all!

A great start so far but I know that there are more zoo images out there.

I have a bit more time to ponder my submission. It just so happens I took a trip to the zoo this past Tuesday and came away with some photos I really like. Hmm...which one would Tim like?
I'll be back tomorrow night after work to post a submission.
I'm glad I'm not you though Tim. I really love zoo photography and you have some good shots here to pick from. Won't be easy.

I haven't been in a zoo (except for a few days work tossing hay) in 35 years, so I don't have anything.

I prefer animals in the wild

Just over 1 day remaining. More like 36 hours since I won't close it out until I awake on Friday.

Good luck.

I have a couple photographer friends that think taking photos at a zoo is beneath them. Only animal photos from the wild are considered to be *real* in their mind. I personally think that photographing zoo animals is a challenge to get an appealing photo. This past Tuesday was a good day at the zoo for me. Here is a photo of a 100 day old anteater riding on mom's back. Baby will ride on mom's back for a full year before cruising around on it's own!

And here is the link to the gallery of my trip to the zoo on this day for those who are interested.

There are probably better photos from this trip to the zoo in the gallery. But I went to the zoo this day specifically to get a photo of the baby anteater so I felt it should be my entry. I was fortunate to have mom and baby out where I could get a few shots. And since we are on the topic of zoos, I'll take the opportunity to post my oldest son's website on zoos here too. re: LAREE.......nice bunch of shots there .....and while shooting in the wild may be more exciting and awe-inspiring to many, it certainly doesn't reduce the quality of a good image no matter where it was taken..........good work !
