POTW #176 Aug 07, 2011 - Aug 20, 2011
Posted By: Davidw0815, 08-14-2011, 01:08 PM

Welcome to edition 176 of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week. Thanks to Warped for hosting the previous edition!

This edition covers photos from Aug 07 - Aug 20, 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favourite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

Yes, thanks David.

Rense, that is suspiciously sharp. You may need some reeducation to correct this bourgeois tendency.

I'm still on a bird kick with my not-really-long-enough-for-birding DA* 200 f2.8. Here's one from this afternoon. I got a few shots of the whole bird, even from a little closer, but blew the focus on those. Took me a bit of Googling to ID this one; I'm pretty sure it is a juvenile yellow-crowned night heron. This is a 100% crop, ISO 400.

Rense, Nice use of the plastic!

Baro-nite, great catch of the juv Heron. You've proven, it's not the length of the optics, it's how close you can get. I've missed dome great shots because I don't have a 2000mm lens>

Ash, good series, very nice night scene, nice job on getting the long kight trails without blowing out the stationary lights too much, and not getting run over! Great aspect on number three too.

This poor guy's T-shirt was fitting, since he had to adapt to such a small area to sit:

Thanks for hosting David.

Rense - cheap price great quality.

baro-nite - that's a keeper well done with 200mm. Good job on the classification.

Ash - I like it , getting to know Sydney through your glass.

Tom - nice series - especially love the second one.

xjjohnno - looks like some great flowers love the framing.

A few from some recent walk/drive abouts

Testing out the Sears 300 f5.6. Finally a nice day in St. John's. Got out with the dog to see what I could find for testing out my newest acquistion, only to discover the only birds or wildlife around were some crows. Oh well, good for contrast I suppose.

Thanks for hosting David! Great shots so far. Gareth you must be pinching yourself with that weather in Newfoundland. I know from the weather reports that it has been a non-summer there. In Alberta we had a non-summer last year but this one is quite the opposite.
Yesterday I had a chance to get down to a new war memorial in town but the weather and time of day was less than ideal (so harsh and bright it was very difficult to meter with the white marble).

Some higher ISO's

Fig picking in the late evening. Both are ISO 1000:

Below isn't the shot I was after. I wanted a nice lightning bolt, but they were too distant and behind the clouds. So, I got this. I like the clearing showing the stars in the deep blue night sky. The faint violet color in the center is from lightning. And the lighter blue to the right is from the moon. Shot at 1250 for 20 seconds.

May not have been the shot you were after, but you certainly salvaged the session with a beauty. The moonlight looks like sunlight, so the appearance of stars at the top makes this a surreal scene.

Mmmmm, figs!

daughn, that one calls for a caption!

lukulele, great view out toward the Sauratown range. That rain brought some clear air. I love the shafts of sunlight coming in at upper left, and the highlighted clouds they create.

daacon, I love #3 -- did you get your feet wet for that one?

Gareth.lg - well at least it's a good shot of a crow (I hear ya lot's of times here there is nothing but the excotic Magpie )

lukulele - Love that first shot - beautiful landscape

Joe - complaining about Alberta weather ? What the heck I did not see one Mosquito (Today) and it has not rained in hours a nice walkabout series.

daughn - welcome that's a fine fun shot looking forward to more.

pentaximus - the last one truned out pretty good but we have all been there. Lightening to me is that elusive shot I want to capture as well.

Who let the Dogs out ?
