POTW #177 Aug 14, 2011 - Aug 27, 2011
Posted By: baro-nite, 08-21-2011, 09:09 AM

Welcome to edition 177 of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week. Thanks to Davidw0815 for hosting the previous edition!

This edition covers photos from Aug 14 - Aug 27, 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favourite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

just a beginner

I'm a beginner/novice, been shooting film about two years, no formal schooling or training, just sort of winging it and learning online. I wanted to start posting photos in more places, so this looked like a good place to start. From August 14th, 2011, Boulder, Colorado... And sorry, but I didn't record all of my aperture and speed settings for these shots...

Berries at Chataqua Trailhead - K1000/Vivitar 100mm f/3.5 Macro/Fuji Astia 100f film:

Flatirons - K1000/Pentax-M 50mm f/1.7/Fuji Astia 100F film:

Cactus in the foothills - K1000/Vivitar 100mm f/3.5 Macro/Fuji Astia 100f film:

Boulder Valley - K1000/Vivitar 100mm f/3.5 Macro/Fuji Astia 100f film:

More fine pics all and welcome pentaxk1000denver glad to have you.

I was out for a few pops last night and I decided to try out some high ISO shots in the bar. These were not run through any Denoise Software (at web sizes it would be hard to tell either way). I missed a few shots (way to dark) but my intent was to jut crank the ISO and leave the flash off. These are not wall hangers by any means but would do in a pinch if you were somewhere that did not allow flash and tripod.

Taken with DA* 16-50 various amp / shutter

ISO 128000

ISO 256000

Just got my K5 a few weeks ago. Graduated from a K10. I've been shooting digital for about 3 years, but shot with a film slr back in the mid 90s. Here's a pic of my cat. You'll probably see pics of my kid too. Glad to be here.

One of our trees was getting unstable and had to be taken down. Men at work ...

The wood dust looks a bit like noise.

Richard, I hope that silver birch is going to be replaced with a native? A grevillea robustus I hope to attract some honeyeaters so you can take pics of pretty little native birds from your back porch I hope.

Been on vacation for a couple weeks. Actually have had the time and decent weather for some photography.

Baro-nite, thanks for hosting this week! Great shot of the humming bird, I spent 2 days at a cottage in Ontario last week trying to get a decent shot of a couple but without any luck, skittish little things.

The last one is of my boy. If he looks bored, its because he was sitting there for several minutes while I figured out the best flash settings.

Jeff,
Now that's some rail crushing NW articulated power. We had the extreme opposite up here in Ashe County, the Virginia Creeper.

You bet, John. Not that we're raging greenies, but native makes more sense. Not sure exactly what we're going to plant. It's actually the front garden. We get lots of rosellas, rainbow lorikeets, wattle birds and even sulphur crested cockies on other trees and bushes in the front. TV for the cats

Richard.
