POTW #179 Aug 28, 2011 - Sep 10, 2011
Posted By: pentaximus, 09-04-2011, 09:00 AM

Welcome to edition 179 of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week. Thanks to baro-nite for hosting the previous edition!

This edition covers photos from Aug 28 - Sep 10, 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favourite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

Thanks so much. I haven't been shooting/posting so much and only half of it is with Pentax. But I will never stop photographing this cat -- she's amazing!

GmcarsMAN - I like that first one nice perspective and if that last one is Beer I'm in

xjjohnno - nice variety quite a few photographers in that first one. Like the blured people as well.

Robin - not really a cat person but pictures are ok and those are very good

pentaximus - thanks for comments not a cloud in the sky today you'll have to wait

Jeff - thanks for the comments my family is older now we prefer white water rafting haha. ummm I am hungry now ! And that is a priceless picture of your daughter.

Davidw0815 - intersting do you perform vodoo ?

Oldschool - nice wheels from what appears to be paper on the floormat I take it this was from a dealership and not a private deal ?

September 7th most of the smart geese are long gone , but found a few straglers last night.

I have been playing with HDR - these are hand held need lots more practice for sure

That is a great shot Robin! After avoiding powerlines for so long I find that if you embrace them they can really add to a scene or become the focus of interest in a shot as in this case.

Thanks. I actually quite like power lines!

Still hate cars however. ;-)

Motorbike ride through southeast BC and eastern Washington

So there I was, on a motorbike ride through SE British Columbia, and down through Colville, WA, and came across the following scenes. See what you think:

August-2010 Midway Bike Trip album | Groesener | Fotki.com, photo and video sharing made easy.

I hope I can just provide that link rather than upload. I haven't figured out how to accurately and quickly manipulate the file size and dimensions without a bunch of messing around.

Well, that was awkward

I thought I saw others simply post links too, but upon further review...no. So, here's at least one of my pics from that set, resized

Dave, a little play I've been having with taking street pics is getting a bit of motion blur from the humans added to the static stuff like buildings which I'm trying to keep in focus, I think about 0.5 sec was the shutter speed for that fuzzy people pic using an 18mm lens. Lovely landscapes there BTW.
Market pics from today.

Some extras from my Single in September II shooting. All shot with my SMC Pentax 1:1.8/55 on a K20D. I brewed some beer yesterday, here are a couple steps:

Mashing: converting the starches to sugars

Sparging: rinsing the sugars from the grains and collecting in the boil pot.

Our Asian Long-Tailed Grass Lizard "Chewy" licking her chops (probably thinking she's going to get the beer)

and showing how agile she is...look ma, no hands

Judging by the bulge in her midsection, I think she'd recently eaten a cricket. Gonna be a Tums night.

legacyb4: I love cameras and food, so you better believe I love pictures of food! I've always wanted to get hold of some truly fresh caught salmon. Someday I will. P.S.--Your daughter is adorable!

Davidw0815: Really nice macros. Thanks for the reminder that the genre isn't limited to bugs.

Oldschool: That's a pretty car. The driver looks pleased. A gift from you, no doubt.

daacon: Love the low flying geese. Nice capture. I think you're just trying to suck up to the host with the B&W. HDR no less. Nice touch.

rparmer: I actually decided to embrace the wires recently. It was before the timeframe of this POTW, so here's a flickr link.

groesner: Welcome, and I really liked your album from the bike trip. Many nice shots there! Don't be a stranger.

xjohnno: Your market shots are fantastic. My fave there is #2. And I can't imagine what awful things the young lady in the last photo would do to you if she knew you had posted it online!!!

jheu02: Homebrew! I have friends who've done it and shared the yummy fruit of their labors with me. Doing this is definitely on my aptly named "bucket" list. And we used to have a pet garter snake. We'd drop minnows in his water bowl and let him do his thing. He absolutely loved that!

This week's POTW is still open, but let me go ahead and say thanks to everyone for posting. We had a good week here.

And tune in next time when lukelele will pick up my slack!

@Jheu2 - that lizard pic with him/her facing the camera - that one's great! Sorta says, "ok, who's next?" It's hard to coax emotion from a lizard, but you did it.
