POTW #180 Sept. 4, 2011-Sept 18, 2011
Posted By: lukulele, 09-11-2011, 10:31 AM

Welcome to edition 180 of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week. Thanks to Pentaximus for a great week of hosting and all of our worldwide community of contributors for their great work.

This edition covers photos from Sept. 4 to Sept 18, 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favourite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Thanks for hosting lukulele! Some really fun stuff to start the week off so far. Thursday I received my new D FA 100mm macro, opened it packed it up and took off for a seven hour drive to help my son and his wife put hardwood floors in the house they just bought. There was very little time to play with the new lens, and mostly uninteresting subjects:

Got a couple of shots before we lest town of the old high school going down:

Down the street form the hotel in Clarksville:

Rose at the hotel:

One handed macro of my filthy watch:

Blue Tailed Skink, fast little critter:

Some Airshow Pics from yesterday, still need to process more. 1st 2 are with a Promaster 28-200 AF lens, others with my Soligor 85-300 MF lens. If you're wondering about the difference in sky colors, it's due to having shot in "shade" WB mode, even though it was a sunny day . I overrode some of the RAW files to correct for the sunny conditions, but I liked the feel in some of the shots by leaving them in shade or cloudy WB

The Adirondack Nationals car show in Lake George went on this past weekend despite 18 inches of rain and some flooding damage from Irene and Lee. The theme in the village was "we're open, come hell or high water" and it was a big crowd that turned out. Most of my shots were with the DA 10-17 and DA 15, pretty essential lenses in big crowds. Exposure is always difficult. Bright sun and strong shadows but I got some keepers.

I shot these with my Leica 60mm Macro-Elmarit-R since I needed some promotional photos for my sound installation "Apophenic Ecosystem C10 C30", opening in Cork Wednesday 14 September 2011.

xjjohnno: thanks for the tour around greater Melbourne and also the CBD -- I loved visiting your city a few years back and I did notice there's no shortage of graffiti along the railroads!

Robin: smooth bokeh indeed. Congrats on the opening; very cool cassette shots and #2 is very funny.

Tom: congrats on the DFA 100 macro, and go Elida Bulldogs (from an erstwhile crosstown rival).

John: great set from the airshow and the warm WB on the last two is perfect -- nostalgic effect as wendl says, and just right for the classic planes in those shots.

Richard: serious muscle there -- great choice with the fisheye for the Nova shot. I can hear the engine rumbling up.

wendl: +1 on the pano/crop and also #4 for a funny subject + impressionistic reflections off the water.

Dave: thanks for the fall preview -- we're not quite there yet in NC! Excellent subtle HDR in #4.

Of course fall up here means spring down there -- lovely set xjjohnno. One day I will get that close to a kingfisher...

Here is one I like to call overstating the obvious - this is a walking / Bike trail - the bridge is about 6 feet wide , someone felt compelled to post a no heay trucks allowed sign there.

Thanks... Its a vintage filter i put on the image... I edited it on my iPad using a 2 programs... Filterstorm Pro & Snapseed (NIK Software). I did color adjustment on FS Pro then added one of the vintage presets from snapseed. The preset also has textures that you can apply.. so i added some texture to it.. Really, the reason for the texture was to hide some dust spots from the sensor but i really like how it came out. The shade over the stars is from the tree that was behind me.. and the sun was just rising also so that is why you see more light shining on the red & white. I did saturate the colors aswell... I only wish I was 1 step back, to get the bottom tip of the flag... but hey it is what it is.. and I love it!

Thanks again...
