POTW #182; 18 Sep 2011 - 2 Oct 2011
Posted By: rob1234, 09-25-2011, 02:54 AM

Welcome to edition 182 of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week. Rob1234 welcomes your photos from around the globe!

This edition covers photos from 18 Sep 11 to 2 Oct 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favourite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

Thanks xjjohnno, next time I'm in Australia I'm getting a bigger bird book!

SpecialK, that is one big red wagon.

Used my new (to me) M 50 1.4 for some available-light indoor shots recently. Missed focus and/or camera blur here but I liked it enough to play with it in PP.

There are some stunning and lovely shots in the selection for this week, which has inspired me to post a couple from yesterday, both taken in London with my K-5 and DA 15mm f4 ( ...owns my mind, etc) at a well-known and veteran venue here, the Ace Cafe:

Thanks to all for the nice words. I am using a manua focus macro lens which makes any kind of bee fast

Her are three from yesterday at a lake close to Muinich:

I spend the weekend with friends in an old farm house in the Black Forest where I enjoyed the last days of summer (probably) and had the opportunity to take some photos.

The farm house [K 24 mm/f2.8, ISO 400, 1/125]

Thomas [FA* 85 mm/f1.4@f4, ISO 100, 1/100]

Flo [FA* 85 mm/f1.4@f2, ISO 100, 1/500]

Sunset [M 28 mm/f2.8, ISO 400, 1/30]

Sunrise [M 28 mm/f2.8, ISO 100, 1/640]

Lots of beautiful shots and great variety so far this week. The great fall weather has continued here though they are calling for some cooling ahead.

Thanks for the comments. It will be a while before I get back to my PP with those sunsets as I'm taking advantage of this nice weather to get some much needed outside work done around the house. I forgot to mention, I shot that sunset with the DA 15.
Rob- Excellent job with the B&W in those 2 shots.
Michael- Love the macros, especially the bee. The water shots are excellent also.
Baro-nite- The wood duck is great! You should print that one and display it.
Noel- Nice series. I like the Anxiety shot. Brings back old memories of the long waits sometimes waiting for my father to pick me up after baseball games. It captures the mood.
Joe- Love the zoo shots and the last harbor shot in the second series is my favorite.
Tom- Excellent job with the cityscapes
Xjohnno- Nice job with the birds
SpecialK-The dog lifting his leg on the wheel is great!
Mecrox- Love the first shot with the bikes.
Jheu- Nice shot of the old Pepsi ad.

mecrox: if you 15 ltd owners keep posting such excellent shots, eventually I'm going to have to buy one of the silly things just to prove it's possible to take mediocre shots with it. I do especially like the tonal range in #1.

Michael: interesting views of a lovely setting.

John: great color and off-beat framing in those two. One of these months I'll have to try the "Single in..." challenge.

David: nice set. #2 is an intriguing portrait -- you pull the viewer into Thomas's intense interest in ... whatever he has in his hands! Also love the sunrise --sublte and very nice.

Joe: more shots with a lovely autumnal feel. Especially #3, starting to look like the end of the season, with that little black cloud signaling winter.

Possum: that is a very funny -- and excellent -- mallard portrait. Such a mangy looking mallard and yet beautifully captured, and the grasses give a nice texture and rhythm.

Robin: Yikes!

[Edit] Tom: what on earth? That is very funny.

Today I tried out a homemade diffuser for the built-in flash, for macro work. I still have lots to learn about even such a simple use of flash as this, but I am pleased with this shot as a proof of concept -- I never would have got this shot without the flash.
