181 - Let's Get Wide
Posted By: JeffJS, 10-01-2011, 03:20 PM

I'm at a bit of a loss for what to challenge all of you with so I'm using my Single in October lens as inspiration here (and looking for some myself).

Let's see your Wide angles. No specific subject but I think using a wide angle lens is a bit of an art in a world where everyone goes for the 'normal', Telephoto, and Macro. So decide on what You call a wide angle and show me what you can do with it. Any type of processing is welcome as long as it fits your subject. I would like for you to challenge yourselves though and go beyond the typical wide angle beach sunsets and the like. So there it is. Show me what your part of the world looks like when we can see a Lot Of it.

The challenge will run from now until Midnight Eastern Daylight time October 8th.

The fine print....
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread, and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera will do.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

And the final rule...have fun with this.

Not an entry, as I'm already entered and this is a composite. I posted this in the Sigma 10-20mm Club thread also.

Hard to decide as I use ultrawide alot to go wide, high or deep. Architectural themes work especially well and sometimes I really like to play with the wide angle distortion. This is the DA 15mm Ltd.

I've got so many wide shots that it was very hard to choose. Basically, I prefer shooting wide, and I have twice as many lenses at 35mm and below than I have at above 35mm. I decided to go with this one, taken almost 5 years ago at the Mideastern Museum in Washington DC.
My trusty old DS since given to a deserving young photog/artist, and the Zenitar 16mm fisheye. Shutter speed 1/125, ISO 200 aperture unknown (manual aperture lens)

edit...OOPS! :8) sorry about that!

NaCl( for more of the same Mr Zenitar goes to Washington )H2O

Nice one Tim. Did you use a tripod to keep the background exactly the same?

Thanks Salty. It was hand held. I used one shot for the background and copied/pasted the other 6 BMX riders onto the the main image. I copied as little of the background as possible for different rider positions, as the light did change some between images.

Taken with Tamron 10-24 (at 10mm). My friend used his super powerful caving torch to light up the woods at night.
Exposure was 20 sec's and it was a little windy so not as sharp as I would have liked.
