181 - Let's Get Wide
Posted By: JeffJS, 10-01-2011, 03:20 PM

I'm at a bit of a loss for what to challenge all of you with so I'm using my Single in October lens as inspiration here (and looking for some myself).

Let's see your Wide angles. No specific subject but I think using a wide angle lens is a bit of an art in a world where everyone goes for the 'normal', Telephoto, and Macro. So decide on what You call a wide angle and show me what you can do with it. Any type of processing is welcome as long as it fits your subject. I would like for you to challenge yourselves though and go beyond the typical wide angle beach sunsets and the like. So there it is. Show me what your part of the world looks like when we can see a Lot Of it.

The challenge will run from now until Midnight Eastern Daylight time October 8th.

The fine print....
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread, and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera will do.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

And the final rule...have fun with this.

Already posted this in the Sigma 10-20mm lens club thread. This one was at 10mm.

Jeff is fisheye OK or do you only want rectilinear shots?

Anything wider than 'normal' including FE is fine. I know there are several folks with the Zenitar 16 FE for instance. I guess I should have defined that. I'm just looking for some fun stuff here and don't want to restrict it too much.

This was taken using the DA 15 Limited. I was standing in the corner of the porch in the early morning and thought the light and shadows were kind of cool. This is small town Virginia epitomized, an old timey courthouse porch. Hope you like it.

Great choice for a subject, Jeff. I love my Sigma 10-20mm, and the hard part is picking just one picture, but here it is:

Pond Ice Shot at 10mm.

My friend fiddling with his bike - tried to find a shot that was uniquely wide-angle, and not a landscape etc...

Not really a classic wide angle shot, but I used my Sigma 10-20 for this on a recent hike in Colorado.

Wide also means very close. My DA 15 has become my favorite lens for car shows with the DA 10-17 a close second. While most folks are backing up to take a picture, I can stand a foot or 2 away and get the whole car in. This one with the DA15.

Langdale Pikes with some nice light at 14mm with the Sigma 10-20. Normally try and get some foreground interest with the uwa for landscapes but this time just wanted to get The various crags in.
