183 - Distant
Posted By: pentaximus, 10-21-2011, 03:53 PM

This week's challenge theme is "DISTANT". It was probably inspired by Clou's posts in this week's POTW. His mountain vistas got me thinking about conveying a great expanse via photo. But I don't want to limit the challenge merely to conveying a spatial relationship. Even more interesting and challenging, perhaps, is the second sense of distant--something like "remote" or "aloof." You know, the "distant" smile or being emotionally "distant." I think this theme should offer some interpretive license for all types of shooters (landscape, street, portrait, etc.)

So, there it is. Show us "DISTANT" in whatever sense you choose to convey it!

The fine print....
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread, and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera will do.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

And the final rule...have fun with this.

I feel honored being cited as inspiration for this challenge.

It took a while until I knew what I should post, here it is.

There are multiple implications of distance here. The rope with the parachute is from a winch launch (the glider is out of sight):

Up and away

These are really great and varied entries! I'm still hoping for some street style interpretations, and some more candid portraits, or whatever else you great shooters can come up with. (Would it be possible to have a "macro" rendering of "distant"? Maybe not...)

I plan to leave this challenge open through Saturday and close it Sunday morning, October 30. I'll post when it's closed. Until then keep 'em coming!

I think the best go is to create an album in your profile and upload picture to there. Then insert photo from the album.
You will notice "Insert Album Photos" printed under the faces on right side of Reply Panel.

Hope this helps

OK, thought I'd try and be more inventive with my post but had problems as the picture had already been uploaded (cheers for sorting, Bramela).

So, here is a distant shot of Clovelly, a North Devon fishing villange (or is it)???

Changing your entry is most certainly welcome! In fact it's recommended if you're changing it to a better entry than your original one.
