183 - Distant
Posted By: pentaximus, 10-21-2011, 03:53 PM

This week's challenge theme is "DISTANT". It was probably inspired by Clou's posts in this week's POTW. His mountain vistas got me thinking about conveying a great expanse via photo. But I don't want to limit the challenge merely to conveying a spatial relationship. Even more interesting and challenging, perhaps, is the second sense of distant--something like "remote" or "aloof." You know, the "distant" smile or being emotionally "distant." I think this theme should offer some interpretive license for all types of shooters (landscape, street, portrait, etc.)

So, there it is. Show us "DISTANT" in whatever sense you choose to convey it!

The fine print....
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread, and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera will do.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

And the final rule...have fun with this.

Hard to choose just one shot. I live in a place where we are blessed with wide open vistas. The Rocky Mountains in this scene are at least an hour's drive away.

Early Spring on the Northern Great Plains of North America

Out there is nothing but distance...

BTW... in case anyone wonders the camera was more or less level - the horizon really does slope down and to the left as it appears. It's a very gentle valley slope down to the Little Bighorn river further to the left.

How the .1% lives. A mansion on the north shore of Long Island Sound. This is distant in more ways than one, taken with the Pentax K 300mm with a 1.4x TC. Probably about 5-7 miles away (@ 10KM). But also far far distant in lifestyle!

Is there anything more distant than a teenager in search of what the world has to offer?
