POTW #186 16 Oct 2011 - 30 Oct 2011
Posted By: ramseybuckeye, 10-22-2011, 09:07 PM

Welcome to edition 186 of the Pentax Forums' Picture of the Week. Thanks to pentaximus for hosting the previous week.

This edition covers photos from 16 Oct 2011 - 30 Oct 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favourite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Tom...thanks for hosting us. Very nearly missed out this week as, like others here, so bogged down with other things. As usual, a lot of excellent work posted and my compliments to all.

I visited family in East Germany last weekend and managed to grab a few shots in a rather hectic one-day tour of Berlin. Although familiar with many parts of Germany this was my first visit from an 'East' perspective. First impressions - a lot of money has been poured into former GDR areas, especially infrastructure and overall, living standards are good. There are moans about employment/social welfare etc. but this is pretty much par for any other country.

Here are a few non-personal pics which might interest you.

Early morning across Lake Spree from our Hotel in Storkow

Late afternoon across Lake Spree

Pretty much what the accommodation was like in the old days. Now internally refurbished

Similar apartments as above but with some restyling. These are much sought after

One of the last remaining sections of the old Wall. The nomans-land area to the right was known as the 'death strip'

Commemorating escapees who were shot. Particularly poignant as these gave themselves up - only to be executed later.

A few more from my East Germany visit. Seems a shame not to post them up, someone might be interested.

This two-deck train serves the East side of Berlin (also runs into Poland). Going into Berlin the train stops at Alexandraplaz - all the following shots were taken there

The Fernsehturm. A 1200ft TV tower with observation and revolving restaurant and frighteningly fast elevator

This must be the ultimate in mobile hot-dog stalls

The World Clock. Once thought (by East Germans) to be a chronological marvel

U-Bahn provincial and metro train Station.

U-Bahn Station. Five separate levels, all of which can be viewed at the same time (if you happen to be in the right spot)

That's great, lukulele! Keep up the good fight!

fotaki--Thanks for the "East" Germany series. I especially like the lake shots and the old wall and memorials--very poignant to be sure.

xjjohnno--What exactly is that bicycle contraption?

The bike contraption is known as bikezilla and even has a 12 volt powered sound system.
