Picture of the Week POTW #190: 13 Nov. 2011 - 27 Nov. 2011
Posted By: Clou, 11-20-2011, 10:26 AM

Welcome to edition 190 of the Pentax Forums' Picture of the Week. Thanks to Free Soul for hosting the previous week and inviting me to host this week.

This edition covers photos from 13 November - 27 November 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

Thanks for hosting, Clou! Love the title of the last one, "Moss and Lensflares"

I've had a decent week of shooting. Some PP fun:

A chance encounter with hawks:

The same location the next day:

Thanks Clou for hosting this week. I bought my first used lens from fleabay the other week and it arrived this morning. I had to wait for it to warm up as it was -10C this morning when it was delivered. I then had to learn how to properly use a manual lens and I think for a first attempt I did ok. The lens is a cheapie -pentax SMC 50mm 1:2.

Everyone, remember to take your cameras to Thanksgiving dinner! Should be some good looking food and families on here later this week.

bigted--That's a nice little lens to shoot with as you get used to it. Love the smooth feel of that focus!

Col--I really like those shots. The landscape has lovely depth and lighting, and I really like the perspective on the mushroom.

Speaking of which, here's a 'shroom I shot just yesterday:

These photos were taken on the Amador Causeway near Panama City (Panama). Both were taken with my K200D and there's been no post-production (I'm on a business trip and have no software--how crippling!).

In the first photo you can see Panama City in the background, and on the left is a whacky under-construction Bio Museum designed by Frank Gehry. Pretty sure they're cormorants in the tree. Taken with my spanking-new 15mm Ltd. Dig that sky with no post-processing and no CP filter.

The second photo shows the Bridge of the Americas, which is at the southern end of the Panama Canal. Had I taken the photo a few minutes earlier there would have been a huge container ship in the frame. Taken with my 55-300mm.

I'm moving here in about two months from Korea. It's going to be a different world.

Tim

Love the variety of things shown here.

pentaximus - yes - Moss and Lensflares tells what it is. I like in particular 'No way out' and 'Foggy morning at the mill'.

Lukulele - 'Crime ended Paradise' (please discard what I wrote before - I was simply too tired) comes to my mind as alternative title. Well seen!

bigted - love the direct stare of the squirrel. Yes, using a manual lens needs some practice. I use quite often manual lenses, there are quite a few around worth a try.

Col - nice examples of a different kind of use for lenses. Both photos are good in their special way.

pentaximus (again) - nice mushroom - was it edible?

nosliwmit - I particular like the contrast between the tree and the skyline in the background. Hope the move will bring you everything you wish.

Michael

I took a walk around our local Occupy Maine protest this week and met a guy named Bobby B. He described himself as a homeless guy enjoying his time with the movement. He was such a character that I broke out my smartphone and started recording our interaction. He broke into a song and made it up as he went along.

I'm baaaaack! Actually I've been following along the last few POTW threads, just haven't had a chance to get the camera out lately, nor much time for commenting.

Clou: thanks for hosting, and posting! I like Tegernseepanorama especially well.

Pentaximus: congrats on the Rokinon 85 -- love Foggy morning at the mill.

lukulele: great!

bigted: is that the M50 1:2? Inexpensive perhaps, but undervalued. You must have been close to that (Abert's?) squirrel!

Col: nice set; I love using long lenses for landscapes, and anything that will focus close for closeups.

nosliwmit: congrats on the 15 ltd! Wow, Korea to Panama -- that's quite a move, all right.

Nice night shots, David and brvnara.

Warped: Australia really has everything!

Nomad: definitely a unique look at the "Occupy" scene.

Today's the Thanksgiving holiday in the US; between family snaps I got a couple of still lifes, more or less, using my just-acquired K 55 1.8:
