Weekly Challenge 189 - Long Exposure

Weekly Challenge 189 - Long Exposure

This week's challenge is LONG EXPOSURE. Whether used to highlight motion, provide light in dark conditions, create abstractions, etc., show us your best example of letting the shutter stay open a bit longer. I don't have a "minimum" shutter speed in mind, just anything that slows it down for effect.

This competition is open from now until 7 AM EST on Thursday, December 22, 2011.

Good luck everyone!

The fine print....
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread, and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera will do.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

Fireflies @ 1.6sec
My sister has a large meadow that is absolutely loaded with fireflies. In late June/early July the sight is quite awesome, literally thousands of blinking lights. I first tried shooting with my DA 12-24 but that didn't work so good. The lights are dim and ephemeral and I needed something a LOT faster. Ended up using my K 50mm F/1.2 focused at infinity

NaCl(next year I'm going to try my Sigma 24mm F/1.8)H2O

20 seconds in Glacier National Park (MT). The first time I really played with my ND filter.

I have to say that everyone is submitting really quality images here! Fantastic start. I love to think of all the "M" and "Tv" shooting going on out there.

I've seen some excellent images in this topic. Mine is a 5 second shot not really long but since there isn't a specific limit I think it's ok. I've posted it in the previous potw thread i hope that's not a problem

Clou, is that where the BMW Museum is? It's been 20+ years since I was there, but what a place. I spent almost weeks in Munich during that trip. Just haven't had the opportunity to go back since then.

Yes, it is. The museum is visible on the right side. Due to its characteristc shape it is called 'Die Schüssel' which means bowl.

Not a problem, tsakatsaka.

We have plenty of great submissions, but time and room for more! Keep them coming, everyone.

Great theme for this week's contest, pentaximus! A lot of great shots so far.

Here is my contribution. I took this picture because I love the effect sodium-vapor lamps create. It's a 39 sec shot.

This was 2 seconds, so borderline "long exposure," but it was taken last night so maybe that's worth something. The two cranes in midframe silhouette are part of the construction of my hometown's newest bridge. In this photo, or at least my full-resolution version, you can clearly see four bridges, plus the one under construction, and it was taken from another one. Unfortunately, I haven't found a good way to take pictures of all 10 (and soon 11) bridges in my city in one go.

Not sure if this is long exposure. Edit in photoshop for that old look. F2.8 1/4s ISO 640. Hand held, Trying to get that Bresson look, LOL at me.

I don't have any newish long exposures (this one was posted in a different topic a few months ago) but I think this shot definitely shows motion. The camera was mounted to the front car on a boom so we could get the motion in the 10 sec exposure. Sigma 10-20 on a K-5. The boom was removed in pshop. The cars really are that low... no pshop there!

Burrard St. Bridge in the Rain

Lots of great shots here. I managed to get this last night with my old SMC Takumar 135/3.5. Shot was 8 secs @ f16.
