Weekly Challenge 189 - Long Exposure

Weekly Challenge 189 - Long Exposure

This week's challenge is LONG EXPOSURE. Whether used to highlight motion, provide light in dark conditions, create abstractions, etc., show us your best example of letting the shutter stay open a bit longer. I don't have a "minimum" shutter speed in mind, just anything that slows it down for effect.

This competition is open from now until 7 AM EST on Thursday, December 22, 2011.

Good luck everyone!

The fine print....
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread, and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera will do.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

Here's a simple example to start, with a 5 second exposure. The longer exposure gave more depth of color to a morning sky that was a bit hazy and less dramatic than hoped.

River Surf The river was in flood and I slowed the shutter in an attempt to capture the movement of the waves washing into this narrow slot and around the tree trunk.

Kristkindlmarkt on the Rathausplatz, Vienna

I just wanted a few nice Christmasy photos before I left Vienna this time. 4-second exposure for this one.

We were at Myrtle Beach 2 years ago when I saw this truck from the balcony. Don't know what they were looking for, but the 20" exposure made for a nice "light painting" experiment. Made some great texture with the shadows.

Thanks! It's about 15 minutes walk up the fire road trail from the parking lot, about 1/3 the way to the top of Mt Hollywood (the one east of the Hollywood sign on Mt Lee).
