Weekly Challenge 190 - Holes
Posted By: jheu02, 12-29-2011, 07:54 PM

I wanted to select a theme that would be fairly broad and open to interpretation, which is what led to this week's topic "Holes." There's many forms a literal hole can encompass, but it can also refer to things as broad as lapses in memory, or the knowledge that something is missing. The literal interpretation should be fairly easy to see, but if you choose the more figurative interpretation, your photo should definitely convey the sense that something should be in the scene that's not, i.e. don't just take a picture of someone and then say that they've forgotten where they placed their keys or some such explanation. Make sure it's done photographically.

This competition is open from now until midnight EST on Friday, January 6, 2012.

Have fun!

The fine print....
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread, and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera will do.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

Seeking the Hole

I was wondering what I could possibly post here, when, after taking a walk down the road this morning to photograph golfers, and processing these photos - it dawned on me! I know, kinda cheesy. But hopefully original.

Great theme jheu02, and already some interesting entries.

In my camp, holes are we come from and where we end up.
So it is not strange to see holes in between.
My take.

October's Bloom

K-x with a SMC Pentax-A 50mm 1:1.7

This one is a pretty straight forward interpretation of the theme. These flowers were speckled with a handful of little holes due to the various forces of nature.

Hole, as in "there seems to be something missing here".
I was in Flushing Meadows park in Queens NY several years ago and came upon this scene. Made me laugh, so I took a quick snap. Not the most technically adept photo I've ever shot, but fun none the less.

The background seen from the photographer's viewpoint gives the shot a bit more context.

This second shot is not an entry

Holes

Lobster pots are full of holes - made of holes, netting inside is mesh holes. Lobster pots, lobster and the ocean are all associated with my part of the country.

Hole-y Muffler Man

Neat theme for the week! This is a Muffler Man sculpture outside an auto shop.
