POTW #197: January 1 2012- January 15 2012
Posted By: wolfiegirl, 01-08-2012, 03:41 AM

Welcome to edition #197 of the Pentax Forums' Picture of the Week. Special thanks to jmschrei for hosting the previous week and inviting me to host this week. Feel very privileged!

This edition covers photos from 1 January 2012 - 15 January 2012. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

Looks like we both escaped Summernats, Wolfie.

Last week, my "will work for food" attitude to photography yielded roast chicken followed by apple and rhubarb crumble for me, and this shot for the proud parents.

OK last couple from the same set (dont think I've breached the 6 allowed limit yet ). Sorry for the repost of the stairway but did a bit of PP work on it (low sat colour as opposed to almost B&W & sharpened it a little).

That's per post, not for the entire thread. Keep 'em coming, nice work!

I think Rhett and Scarlet should be descending that staircase. Beautiful trim work made even more so by the lighting and moldings. Magnificent salvage pieces.

We had a lovely sunset and moonrise on my way home last night and I wanted to share:

that's taken from the reflection on the driver's rear view mirror. I love that the angle it was shot at makes it look like an abstract speech bubble.

and here's the moonrise.

on a different note, was processing some more pics from the weekend and came across this:

Not exactly "ruin porn" but it seemed to bring to my mind the same kind of feeling? It's been desaturated with just some colour range highlighting in PP and a film grain added.

Anyway, maybe looking at all mde's "ruin porn" inspired me to PP in that kind of mindset.

All shots taken on the k100d, M tamron 80-210 103a. Click on image for exif data.

Decided yesterday would be a good day to pop by the Botanical Gardens and see what was on show.

Well you have been busy so far wolfiegirl! I have not had much time for photography over the last few days but I did hit the downtown core yesterday. These shots also appear in the current Single In January challenge in the Groups section.
I shot these towers yesterday but today high winds caused the sign atop the right office tower to come loose and they had to close a street for a few hours.

I don't use selective colour much but this billboard seemed the perfect subject:

Wolfiegirl, the lens was a Lester Dine 105mm f2.8 macro. The lens is also branded as a Series 1 Vivitar and a Kiron who made the lens.
Those bugs had taken a liking to the Norfolk Island hibiscus, a tree I knew as an itchy powder tree in my younger days, the fruit when crushed has all these tiny hairs in it, down someone's shirt, hit them on the back to crush the seed and one itchy person.

Hey jmschrei,

I had a busy weekend in Sydney - which means lots of interesting subjects to take photos of - not just trees, grass and wind turbines. And when there's lot of interesting subjects to take photos of, a girl's gotta do....

Having said that, last night's sunset was soooo beautiful. I sat down in front of the lappy around 10.30 thinking "I'll just quickly process these pics" and suddenly it's midnight! I still have a whole bunch of shots to go through that were taken on the kx F 35-70 which range from Saturday yet to be processed. *shakes head* Sometimes taking your camera with you everywhere isn't necessarily a good thing. Least not for my sleeping hours anyway.

I was just reading about the Singles thread. Trying to figure out how that works. Does that mean you're ONLY allowed to take one photo per day with ONE lens?? That doesn't work for me. I take photos daily and I have two cameras to boot. (let's not talk about the lenses... ) Or is it simply that you make a point of only posting pictures taken with one particular camera and lens per day? i.e. it doesn't stop you from using other cameras/lenses etc as well?

I love that first shot btw! Love the colour of that glass!
