Roadside Discovery

Weekly Challenge 191: Roadside Discovery

What did you see alongside or near a road, and what choices did you make about presenting what you saw?

If you're a city person who hasn't had time to get into the country, you may submit a streetside discovery.

For safety's sake, don't photograph while operating a motor vehicle, bicycling, skating, etc.

Information about your photographic and processing techniques would be welcome.

Post your photograph no later than 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time, U.S.A.) January 16, 2012.

Have fun!

The fine print....
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread, and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera will do.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

Great Theme SMF, and wonderful images so far. Here's mine, taken in Addo Elephant National Park, while watching a hawk, that had caught a rat, only to drop it as it flew off. I waiting for it to retrieve its catch, and I was ready with my camera. While waiting I took some shots of the flowers, and along came this bee for a quick visit.

Found this drunken pig when traipsing through a small country town one Sunday afternoon.

Moose on the loose

This moose made us late for lunch... which wouldn't have been so bad if Carol and Bob hadn't been half an hour early.

Saw a opportunity while out driving looking for a shot or two.

I am a sucker for things that are taken for granted.
Been photographing this roadside sign whenever possible throughout the seasons to extract its personality.
I enjoy the crackle, the growing dents, and the fading paint of this silent road sentinel that we drive by without notice faster than we should.
This image was taken late last summer on an early morning accompanied by some overgrown Woodland sunflowers from a Single in... challenge.

Sometimes the roadside discoveries are far from pleasant. Such was the case for this poor guy. Apparent cause of death - a fall from the electric wires 20 feet above.

Perhaps more a "middle of the road" than a roadside discovery:

1st timer

Yes my first post, and hopefully not the last! My wife's already complaining about how much time I've spent here since joining.
Here's a shot from one of the "tourist" stops in Amish country in Northern Ohio, US. Love the reaction of what the lady discovered next to her "wheels":

I found Jayne Mansfield in the fading light on Christmas Eve in a small town cemetery in Pennsylvania.

Sounds intriguing but I can't see your post. If you have linked it from an album or another site make sure it is set for "public" or you will be the only one to see it. And welcome!

"Early Sunday morning at the street fair." The title says it all. Every year the local Catholic Church has a street fair to raise money. I was on my way to a local park and came across this scene. I liked the lonely feel of it, especially the rain puddles.

Driving along in Texas I look over and see these characters, turn around just in time to get this. Shot with a K55 1.8, no time to change lens or get closer as they were giving me the eye, so had to crop quite a bit.

Swirl hole

Little fall in the creek that changes with the season and water flow, sometimes a few feet, this is pretty normal for winter. Not really much of a discovery as I have probably driven past on a tractor or in a car 8,000 times in the last 34 years,Almost dark when I passed this evening, lightened the photo up a little and cropped.A50mm f2 KX iso 400 1/60 f2
