Weekly Challenge 191: Roadside Discovery

What did you see alongside or near a road, and what choices did you make about presenting what you saw?

If you're a city person who hasn't had time to get into the country, you may submit a streetside discovery.

For safety's sake, don't photograph while operating a motor vehicle, bicycling, skating, etc.

Information about your photographic and processing techniques would be welcome.

Post your photograph no later than 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time, U.S.A.) January 16, 2012.

Have fun!

The fine print....
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread, and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera will do.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

Sounds intriguing but I can't see your post. If you have linked it from an album or another site make sure it is set for "public" or you will be the only one to see it. And welcome!
Thanks jmschrei for the welcome and the info. Don't know why my pic didn't show as I have had successful links from my photo storage site before. 'Course, they say the mind's the 2nd thing to go... and I don't remember the first.

Anyway here's another go:

I was driving down a back road a few miles from home and I saw that this big old majestic oak that sat along the road had been cut down.

I found this rather sickly bicycle by the side of the road on Queen's Lane, Oxford, on 25 March 2011. Taken with my K-5 and DA 70mm f2.4:

I'm so glad others, too, stop for turtles. I save turtles whenever I can. Nice snapper there. They're tricky to move, but it can be done safely for the turtle and the rescuer alike. If you don't mind my saying so here, I've written up a printable guide showing how to lift snappers (works for other turtles, too) and you can find it by clicking through this link.

Perhaps more a "middle of the road" than a roadside discovery:

Road-ready Tee

Traveling on the hi-way above, I spied this ol' Model T frame on the side road and had to stop and shoot a series in the rain.

Tamia, great service you're performing. You may not be as entertaining as the "turtleman" rescuing turtles on TV (he is a friend of all animals), but you're TEACHING people to care for turtles. Thanks!

Thank you, Tom. I hate to see turtles who have been killed or, in some ways worse, mortally wounded, so with the help of a turtle rehab expert, I put together the info sheet.

A recent wind and rain storm flattened the tall grass on a field beside the road that I walk revealing this old piece of farm equipment.

I'm also late but since it's still open I'll try it. Driving to work last week after a rainy night I saw a glimpse of a rainbow behind a hill. I left the car, walked up the hill and it was more than a glimpse
